Hell yeah! I got a set of Fami protos from this guy in Japan who used to own a toy store. He told me there were no differences from the retail versions, but this one has at least one so far. Instead of letting you choose between either starting or putting a password in, it goes straight into the game automatically. Although it's just a very tiny change, it was a very nice surprize for such a huge Goonies/Fami fanatic as me as I was expecting it to be exactly like the released version. Now to comb through the rest of the game just in case.....

I'd scan the protos and post pics but I don't know of any free web hosts that allow remote linking anymore. Anyone?

So you can never input a password? Ouch! Goonies 2 is WAY too long a game to beat in one sitting. Interesting change though.

Hey,

I would love to see pictures. If you want, send them to me at drta04@planetnintendo.nospam.com (remove the .nospam part) and I'll post them for you.

Thanks.

Dave

Update:

I had a quick play through of the game and here are the differences so far:

As mentioned before, you can't put in a password.

The game is uncompletable. You can only rescue 4 Goonies. There is no way to get to the other two or the point where the game ends. Both the warp zone that takes you to the fire world and the one that takes you to the cabin with those tin man looking enemies just warp you back out the door you came in. I guess this was to make sure people wouldn't just sit there in the store and play the game all day until they beat it.

When you lose, there's no rat-a-tat sound when Ma Fratelli talks until after you press either start to continue or select to quit. If you press select, she says something (wosei; goodbye, I guess, but even my basic Japanese is very rusty) and the game goes back to the title screen after you press select again instead of giving a password.

I will probably scan the protos and send them to TRM tonight.

Hey Dreamtr,

Thanks for mentioning this to me. I misread the original message a bit--I think I read it too fast. I wouldn't mind seeing it as well (Golgo 13 cart).

Yeah, that's correct.

Hey Jason, were you the guy who won that Golgo 13 lot? That stuff looked cool, but it went way too high for me. I think the reason it went for so much was the Milon's Secret Castle demo cart more than anything else. Even beaten up copies of that can go for like 10 to 20000. Japanese collectors go nuts for stuff that's a standard, professional looking issue but aren't really big on more generic looking demo/proto stuff for some reason. Oh well, more for us I guess.

Hi Li, no, I won some Jaleco proto the other day, btu the other games went way too high for me, but no big deal, I am not desperate for anything anymore it seems like I once was...
