Woah, where's this game been hiding at? I never see this shooter talked about. I picked this up this weekend for $6 loose, never seen it before and I liked the title. I kinda lucked out that it was a good game I guess.
Anyway, its a nice change of pace from the other shooter I've been playing lately, Sonic Wings 3 (NEO). FP2000 has really long stages, with tons of enemies to shoot up before you reach the boss, where as SW3 is basically one boss after the other. I'm liking the power up system of FP2000, you start with 3 different weapons, but when you die, you lose something. I don't have the instructions, but the power ups go pretty high, I've been up to level 6 with a couple of the weapons, so thats a nice amount of powering up I would say. Especially opposed to SW3's 4 power up limit. Another neat thing I like about the power up system, is that when you die, you don't go from fully powered up to nothing!, it only drops you 1 or 2 levels, that way you don't go in naked every time you die, excellent!
I like the ability to choose the tank or the chopper, however I've been using the chopper since it isn't obstructed by ground targets. I tried using the tank, but I can't get used to the jumping ability, I just can't judge how high or how far it jumps. But I do like the multi directional fire of the tank, maybe when I get better I'll switch to the tank for a challenge, but for now I'll stick with the chopper. I'd like to try 2 player, it looks promising.
The graphics are about on par with Raiden, and the action about the same, and that to me is a good thing. It's got a couple neat little cinema scenes during the demo to spruce things up. All in all well worth my $6, and a nice little suprise out of nowhere. If you like overhead shooters, I recommend it, and its a common title too.
