next, 2600 (4switch) oystick port probs

so everything else work, even the right controller, but the left port is just dead, well it shoots, thats it. It's not the controller, the port looks good and the solder connections were checked(no loose-no leaking), traces were checked, am i missin something like it not being grounded properly, i really don't see why changing the port out would really do anything, but thats what people do i think.

what would cause Up, Down, r, l to stop?

now how about a 7800 that 2nd joystick port, being empty is always turning to the right, like it's stuck going right.

you can use the port with a joystick and you can do the normal stuff keeping in mind your again always going right.

I have one with the same problem , but it's always going right with or without a controller plugged in.

well thats what i ment, in whatever language i was speaking. err anyways yes alwaying going like that, but say you stick a controller in, and it's still going right, but you can fire and go left and up and down, all while going right. and oddly enough in combat when your going when you press right and left and up at the same time the tank flys 3 times faster than normal.

I completely concur with superstonic. I've repaired both a 7800 and a 2600 with the problems described by swapping out the controller chip. You can just follow the traces to find it. It's easy as pie if your chips are socketed and not soldered in (most 2600's, and early 7800's are socketed I believe).

that reminds me, so it's the same thing in a CV? I have one that is constantly going Down, that and some of the keypad numbers do not work. So i thought i was the controller. so i got another CV(for bad graphics, that i just neded to resolder some points), and those controllers work fine, and everything is fine with the new one now. will check over the old one and check the normal stuff.

so out of a lot of 5 2600's,1 CV, 1 7800:(not bad for $18)

1 Heavy unit(you know full metal bottom part) (made in CA,USA): Bad solder on the reset and power switches. fixed
1 Heavy unit(made in taiwan): Bad solder on the power switch. fixed
1 4 switch: bad power port, replaced with one from a telestar pong unit(that i use battries in it anyways).fixed
1 heavy unit(made in taiwan): video jack/port pulled out, resoldered back in. fixed.
1 CV bad solder in handful of spots, 2 on the cartridge slot, cleaned. Fixed

1 2600 4 port, look like from above bad chip.
1 7800 4 port, looks like bad chip
