What were the best versions of Full Motion Video games?

A number of Full Motion Video games came out on a number of different platforms. I'm trying to find out which versions are considered to be the clear cut superior versions.

I'm assuming that if there were 3DO or Saturn versions, then those would be superior in terms of video quality and sound quality, and size of the video window, but of course I could be wrong.

Here are the different FMV games that I'm most interested in comparing:


Corpse Killer: Sega CD, Sega 32X CD, 3DO, Sega Saturn

Double Switch: Sega CD, Saturn

Night Trap: Sega CD, Sega CD 32X, 3DO

Quarterback Attack: 3DO, Sega Saturn

Sewer Shark: Sega CD, 3DO

Supreme Warrior: Sega CD, Sega 32X CD, 3DO


One of the reasons that I'm interested in this, is because for whatever reason, I actually enjoy these campy FMV games. I would like to have one of each FMV game, and I would like to just get the best version, for whatever console that may be. I don't have a 3DO right now, but I hope to have one in the near term. I'm most interested in what I consider to be the "TRUE" FMV games, that of the Digital Pictures variety.


On a side note, I really wish that somebody would acquire the rights to these games and re-do them on the current consoles, especially the XBOX. They could put 4 FMV games on one DVD. I'm sure that they could dramatically improve the sound and picture quality and the size of the picture window. I think that would be very sweet, of course, I know that there isn't a chance in H, E, double hockey sticks of that happening, but oh well....

Anyways, FMV would most likely look nicer on the XBOX than the PS2, so I can't disagree with you about that one.

Shin Shinobi Den, or (Shinobi X?) Shinobi Legions -- there's an example of a game with lots of FMV but also classic 2D gameplay. Gotta try that one out someday.

The stuff (especially on the Sega CD) was pretty small, grainy and blocky, basically sub video CD quality.

I have seen some games like Mad Dog McCree on DVD and am kind of suprised Digital Pictures hasn't put out their old games on this format.

And I actually, enjoy the DP games as well (except for Slam City). Supreme Warrior was pretty notable since they actually filmed it in the old Shaw Bros. backlot and had stars like Richard Norton, who was the villain in two Jackie Chan movies (one of them being City Hunter, which also has a sequence where Jackie turns into various SF2 characters, including Chun Li). It's been a while since I played it, but I think they also had one of the Yuen brothers direct the action.

Quite a few of those games were also released on the PC, including Night Trap and Psychic Detective. If nothing else, the load times might be better (especially if you play them from the hard drive).

(Ever notice that Loadstar: The Legend of Tully Bodine was released simply as The Legend of Tully Bodine on the PC?)

Indeed. I remember playing an old Submarine FMV game for the PC, about 8 years ago. Maybe 7. I sucked at it, though; kept choosing the wrong options, and eventually got wasted by enemy subs. All my crew died, lol.
