I've been collecting nes stuff for years, but I've recently managed to get my hands on a twin famicom, and now I'm ridiculously addicted to ebay for getting famicom games. Have any of you found any other sources for games besides ebay? It's ridiculously pricey to be trying to build a collection like that.

I suppose the best option would be to find a japanese collector who is interested in trading japan stuff for our easy to get u.s. stuff. i have no idea how to pull that one off though. sigh.

Neither did I, but my contact found me through one of my sites. I guess I was just lucky.

I just hunt around for specific titles. There's lots of people out there who are sellers on the weekends, and I say paying a bit too much is better than not having it at all.

What're you looking for?

I know I didn't start this topic, but does anyone have a lead on where I could find Holy Diver and Namco's Star Wars for the Famicom? These titles rarely pop up on Ebay, and I always get sniped on them.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

i just saw a copy of holy diver go unsold on ebay for 5.99. guess you missed that one, it was on my watch list, but i forgot to bid on it.

as for what i'm looking for...hm...some obvious ones like the wai wai world games. i have a pirate copy of wai wai world 2 that i got in a lot of games, but i'd like to have the official release. bio mircacle bokutte, splatterhouse: wanpaku grafitti, the kunio games, super mario 2 for the fds, and all the random shooters that are amazing that never came out here. yeah i know, basically the desirable games.

as for now, i just try to buy the lots of 25+ games that show up on ebay every week with the blurry pictures, and no list of what the games are that no one really ever bids on. it's kind of fun, because i never know what i'm going to get, and i get the games for a relatively good price. i mostly just collect the games to play them, so getting complete ones really doesn't matter to me.

Sounds like you basically want all of the FC games that I already have, with the exception of the Kunio games. :D

I've seem SH: Wanpaku Grafitti on eBay all of one time, and that was the copy that I won. I've been trying to work out a deal with my contact to get more of them to sell on my Splatterhouse site, but that's still a work in progress...

haha, rub it in why don't yah. anyway, if you work that deal out with the splatterhouse thing, let me know for sure. i'd definitely be interested.

how many famicom games do you have? i havn't seen too many american collectors with a huge collection.

also, any games you'd suggest checking out? i seem like to like the cutesy sidescrollers the most...mario 3 is probably my favorite game ever...

Currently 18 carts and 4 disk games. It's not exactly a huge collection, but I like it. :) That SH idea of mine ever goes through, I'll let you know.

You should pop over to the Import Mania forum sometime. :)

I highly recommend checking out both Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa and Yume Penguin Monogatari if you like cutesy platformers. YPM has the best storyline EVER.

i already have about 65 carts, but no fds games yet. like i said before, the best route has been just to buy random lots on ebay and see what i get. i've had some good luck that way.

is yume penguin monogatari a game where you eat stuff and there's dogs barking at you and whatnot? i think i might already have that one. wai wai world 2 is basically the best though. i still havn't figured out what makes you change into though other characters yet though. seems totally random to me.

You do eat stuff in YPM, but there's no dogs, at least none that I've seen. That sounds like Chubby Cherub you're describing. The dead giveaway that the game is YPM is that you're controlling a total fatass of a penguin. LOL

As far as changing forms in WWW2, you have to pick up a specific icon (the square icon with a red C in the middle of it), which will cause a red box to start flashing across the character weapon icons. Once the box gets to the icon of the character that you want, press up and jump and you should change.

hmm, it's not chubby cherub, i know that for sure. and the game i am describing, you are a character that somewhat remsembles a pengiun. but there is dogs everywhere, so we're not talking the same thing here.

i'll have to try the www2 thing later, thanks for the tip.

Any chance you could post a scan of the cart? Is it by Konami?

MoreEbola,

Was that the disk copy of the game? I saw Famicom Disk versions of Star Wars and Holy Diver on a few days ago that no one bid on, but I have no way of playing these, so I didn't bid on them. I wish there was another way to find these games than just looking on Ebay.....

hmm, yeah i could probably post a scan, but it's a pirated game, so that probably wouldn't help us much.

yeah, it was the fds version of holy diver. is there even a cart version?

Yes, there is - I own it. Hearing that there's a disk version is news to me.
