I don't have any of the current systems. I don't really play the newer games that much... but I do plan on picking the stuff up once it goes into clearance/lowest price levels. When do we think that will officially be the case? When the next platform comes out? When they all drop below $100? What have those condition markers been in the past?

when you can get a console for under $75 and most titles for under $15 is about the bottom line. i havent seen a console go the firesale route since the virtual boy, modern consoles hang in there pricewise and some never really bottom out at all. SNES games left the new retail market at $15+ in most places, same for the DC, saturn and N64 except for a few mass produced titles places like TRU needed to unload.

The Saturn didn't do that. I picked up a LOT of my Saturn collection for under $5 a pop from retail places. Not crappy overproduced games, either. They weren't all RPGs, but they weren't exactly NFL 97 either. The Saturn hardware was at mall retail stores at nearly free at the end. The netlink stuff especially, they couldn't GIVE it away.

PS1 still has new games coming out for it, and everything is marked at current prices (hell, it's still outselling the gamecube last I heard)

So I wouldn't say when the next-gen console comes out :)

I think that's a special case here, though, since that's the only one with any sort of compatibility with the following console.
