Okay, I'm pissed. Last night I got a package of three rare nes games. The dude sent them in a paper envelope via media mail. The envelope arrived clearly opened and had 1.71 POSTAGE DUE because you can only send CDs and books via media mail according to the mailman. How annoying is that?!

Thats jacked up, and your mailman is wrong.
"Media Mail™ contents are limited to materials such as books, sound recordings, recorded video tapes, printed music, and recorded computer-readable media (such as CDs, DVDs, and diskettes)."
They did change their description a bit, because it used to read software (even though cartridges are technically "firmware") But then again it depends on what you define as a computer. IMHO a game system is definitely a computer.

Actually, I used to send all carts via Media Mail. But they recently changed the wording slightly so that computer programs not on cassette or CD are not sendable via Media Mail. In other words, cart-based stuff is no longer sendable via Media - even if it's a cart for Basic Programming for the Atari 800. Whatever. It's a $2 difference, unless I send it via First Class, then it's a buck or so. But Postage Due? That's messed up. But yuou can't really blame the seller, as he sent it media as agreed. the Post Office is doing the screwing here.

I'd be pissed that the post office opened my package. Unless it's covered in white powder or is ticking like a bomb, I don't think it's any of their business.

It was very poorly packed. Three (RARE) nes carts in a manilla envelope. The envelope could easily have ripped on its own.

How about ordering something off of Amazon, paying $12 + $2.65 for shipping and getting a bootleg tape on top of $1.7- in postage due!

yeah, last week when I was at the post office the cashier mentioned to me that they are more strict about media mail packages. I'm in pretty good with the post office near me, I'm considered a "regular" and I don't ask dumb questions or hold up the line, so they kinda like me.
But anyway they used to ask me what I was shipping whenever I wanted media mail, last six months they have never asked me and could care less.
All I can say is package it good and you shouldn't have any problems.

Almost everything I ship I give the seller the option of either media mail or Priority mail depending on how quickly they want it. I've even sent the ocasional console via media mail and was never questioned.
