When asked about the Gamecube price drop, this was the exact quote (Taken from an IGN story) that a TRU rep responded with...

"This is not only good for Nintendo, but great for consumers," said Lucky Evani, Toys 'R Us representative. "For $99, you can now buy video game technology that you couldn't have purchased for $99,000 just a few years ago."

Un, I don't think the Gamecube would've cost $99,000 during the N64's reign.... LOL Makes me almost embarrased to work for the company...

Exaggeration, but his heart was in the right place.

If I had a couple hundred $AUS, I might go grab one. Maybe Christmas.

...But I like Nintendo...

I really think they are going to pull on out of there ass and just blw everyone away the next round. I hope at least.... :/

Eh. I have a tendency to be mainstream until a console dies, when it instantly gains a lot more coolness factor in my book. Crazy, yes, and I don't know why.

Probably gonna stick with the PS3.

Wow, $99,000? Wasn't that the initial cost of the 3DO?

I think he's saying 99,000 to mean "couldn't have purchased at retail period". Game machines with the NCG's power simply weren't available - using Moore's Law, which I think might be a little slow for videogame technology, a 1000-fold decrease in price would take around 15 years. So in 1988, had it have been available, would have cost 99000 dollars.

Yeah, but he said "a few years ago." I take that to mean no more than 5 years, but maybe it's just me. 1988 was quite some time ago.

After the conference, Lucky spotted some hungry children in the distance and ran off with his tasty marshmellow-filled breakfast cereal.
