Famitsu got the scoop on two "new" games coming from Square Enix: Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest. Both updated ports of the original late '80s RPGs, Final Fantasy is a port of the recent WonderSwan Color/PlayStation remake, while Dragon Quest harkens from the Super Famicom. Both games will be made available on cellular phones, thanks to the iMode and DoCoRo service plans.

Square Enix has announced a DVD title called Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. The story takes place 2 years after FFVII, the once peaceful world of FFVII has become corrupted again, and it seems both Cloud and Sephiroth are present in the movie. It is unclear whether this is only a DVD movie, or a full videogame.

DVD title? :hmm:

Well, I'll be dipped in shit and rolled in cracker crumbs. They actually did it.

The "DVD title" phrase could mean that it'll be a game on a DVD-format disc, but some other sites are reporting that it is, in fact, a DVD movie. I guess Square didn't want to re-render the setting for FFVII, or use the same visuals from a game that's six years old.

At any rate, Cloud looks like Tidus.

And there are TWO Kingdom Hearts titles ahead? Geez. They've got to put the Gargoyles in one of them.

Agreed... I think his hair needs to be bigger.

I'd say it looks more like a DVD movie... but didn't Square Pictures close up shop after FF:TSW? That would suggest that it won't be a full-length affair.

Ok, here's what I've heard: This is a ff7 sequel called FF7-2, and the game will have several different plot twists. It's going to be the same people that created 6. Nuskgaio Kawi is one of the designers, and in terms of actual gameplay 6 was the successor in the FF series. Anyway, it's supposed to have alternate endings regarding the death of Aeris, and new scenario involving the actual leader of the group- You get to choose. I doubt it will have the graphics of ten, because they're getting redundant with those from X-2. I look for a great game, but instead of sticking out that 2 on the end of every sequel, they should just call the game something else. This goes against the whole idea of the Final Fantasy series anyway now, because now nothing will ever be final.

The cell phone games will not make it over here. U.S. is so far behind in cell phone usage and technology it's mind boggling.

The FF7 sequel will either be the sweetest damn thing ever made, or so horrible it will wreck Squarenix for a long time to come.

I second that. Whatever the hell it is, it looks cool, even though if I had my way I'd leave FFVII alone. The game has it's history; why fix what isn't broken?

At the moment I'm just pumped about Kingdom Hearts 2...but this might be an added bonus.

That is honest to god, the best videogaming news I have heard in the longest time!

Thank you so much for confirming that FF7 now has a sequel!! :D

Seriously, Final Fantasy VII is one of the few games in HISTORY that needs another game to explain that cryptic friggin ending...

[no spoiler warning... come on, you should have finished it by now, and if you didn't the magazines ruined it before the game even came out]

How many Sephiroths were there? did you finally fight the real one? Red XIII was the last of his species, yet there are many of them at the end. Areis (Areith, whatever) shows up? What's up with Midgar? Did Holy succeed or was the resulting destruction come from Sephiroth's spell?

Holy crap, I wanna see this sequal. I may be in the minority, but I really liked FFVII.

Blackjax, you are no minority, there are MILLIONS of people that will buy this game on Day 1, me being one of them. I hope Squaresoft comes through like they always do with this one. 8-)

This is all good news. It's nice to know that Disney finally gave in and they are making the KH II and even a GBA port now. (I'm stoked for Nightmare before Christmas too)

FFVII-2 looks neat! However, most of those look like redone FMV's from the first game, so who knows--they could be recapping it in game or in a DVD (or collecting all the first scenes in a DVD movie) Either way, if Yuffie is present I'm first on board.

Guys, don't get your hopes up. It might just be a DVD movie and in that case will probably never make it to the states.

Wha? Even if Square fails to realize that the DVD will sell thousands of copies in North America and chooses not to license it appropriately, there will probably be fansubs spreading through the underground before long.

That's for sure. At least if it were a game, there would be some copy protection to slow it down. Otherwise, straight to Bit Torrent!
I guess that Magicbox says that the footage will be all CG and about an hour in length.

Also, Square has an FFXII announcement coming on November 19th.
