How do I take an in-game screen shot?

Thanks!

If it's the same as when I played it way back 3 years ago or so, you have to hit something like F12 or one of those buttons over on that end of the keyboard.

EQ had (and probably still has) a customizable keyboard layout file stored somewhere in the game's directory. You can edit all your keyboard preferences there.

I believe there was also an in-game keyboard options menu...

Why am I even answering this question? I think EQ is the spawn of satan.

It is the spawn of Satan, but thanks for the tip.

This is one of the most frustrating games I have ever played, I think I started too late.

It feels like I am all alone in the game. :(

Frankly, I thought Everquest was, and is, the worst MMORPG released. (although AC2 is debatable) I beta tested it, and tried playing it again about 6-9 months ago.

I have high hopes for EQ2 though :)

It is incredibly frustrating, and if you are all alone then you will quickly find the game unplayable. You are not allowed to gain experience from groups that have members whose levels are a lot higher than yours, and you absolutely MUST group at higher levels (10-15+, let's say) to be able to kill anything at all that will give you experience. From what I hear the game is now populated solely by people who are levels 50 and above who are doing nothing more than killing endlessly for more loot and the next bubble of experience.

Because EQ has such poor game design IMO I, unlike Sylentwulf, have no hopes for EQ2. What I do have hopes for is Horizons: Empires of Istaria. While I can't say anything about it because of an NDA, I am currently beta testing it and as soon as the NDA is lifted I can let you know what I think of it if you're interested.

As you can see in my sig, I also have high hopes for Everquest 2. :)

Ever tried Anarchy Online? I've heard it's many times better than Everquest.

Have a look:

I've heard people go on and on about it though i've never tried it. Personally I might get back into PC gaming once World of Warcraft comes out, it looks decadent!

I played EQ hardcore from January 01 til... I think August 02 when i sold my then-great (not uber) account for $900.

Man, I want my time back. I made some great friends (one of which I'm getting blitzed with this saturday), met some really cool people and at times had a whole shitload of fun. Sadly, the enjoyability was grossly outweighed by the 4 hour corpse runs, the lost experience, the frustrating quests and the backstabbing assholes. But when it was fun, and everyone got their shit together and focused and accomplished something, it was a feeling like no other.

Anarchy Online was sorely lacking in comparison to EQ. For serious, it was pretty straightforward (once you get past the seemingly overwhelming number of equip slots) and didn't have a lot of variety... at least it didn't by the time I joined it. The game was stable (unlike it's incredibly terrible lauch that doomed the game) and the speedy leveling treadmil made it more enjoyable in the short run in EQ, but I played it for 2 months and dropped it, just lost interest. The end game didn't seem to be anywhere near the calibur of EQ.

But for now, EQ seems to have put a sour taste in my mouth for the whole genre. World of Warcraft and EQ2 are right now the only 2 that could ever hope to peak my interest again, and even then I don't think I could be dedicated enough (yes, to a videogame) to get back to where I was in EQ. The eventual 3000+ hours (not a typo) I dumped into EQ only resulted in a $450 gain after purchase prices and monthly fees... now while I shouldn't expect a return, it really turned into more of a job than entertainment.

If you're just jumping into EQ now... I'd suggest just waiting for EQ2 or WoW. Even if I went back after having been out of it for a year I'd have no fucking clue what was going on. So much has changed (mostly for the better) and I'd never catch up, I can't imagine just jumping into the world now. Wait for a fresh start with EQ2 or some other game.

That was my problem Hezu, I bought EQ Evolution, which is Eq with all the expansions except the latest (LDoN) and they just plopped me into the world, I was so new, feeling all alone, and all the high lvls were off camping high lvl camps, so I had virtually no help, except for a few people.

2 days into the game, I am quitting, sure, I wasted 70 bucks for the game and 90 days of service, but learned an important lesson:

DON'T BUY 5 YEAR OLD MMORPG'S!!

I still play to this day.. I will be dropping it for EQ2 as the current state of EQ is nothing but camping with mega-uber 65 necro's and mages while the economy is ruined thanks to Veriant making increasingly powerful items with each expantion.

My best time in EQ was back when GEB's (Golden Effriti Boots) cost 10k plat and all the melee that was worth a shit had on a FBSS.

I still feel that Kunark was the greatest game expantion of all time.

I was an enchanter, and thus a jeweler. I spent SO MUCH time becoming a grandmaster jeweler... then I spent so much time making and selling stuff to be able to afford an SMR (9k), pair of GEBS (for a cheap 12k!) and a Runed Cowl for only 7k! Man, those were the days, I was such a pimp, and Lower Guk was my bitch. I also remember paying 120k for a CoF for my monk twink, along with 50k for a fungi tunic.

I kinda want my account back now :(

Back on topic... if you've got the time paid for already, may as well give it a shot and see if you like it.

What race/class did you pickup?

So I'm the only one interested in Ultima X? :hmm:

calthaer

Yes, you are. If Richard Garriott is not involved, then it is not truly an Ultima. They are simply whoring out the franchise now, as EA is wont to do.

Besides, seeing EA's track record with Earth & Beyond and The Sims Online (both abysmal failures as MMOGs go...and didn't they have a Motor City Online that went belly-up?), I wouldn't touch a subscription game from them with a ten-foot pole.

Deathstar

Eh, I am pretty sure that Motor City online is fairly popular...

We must be operating off of some tape backup, because I remember distinctly that last Saturday I posted EA's Motor City Online website which bid all of its subscribers goodbye after it shut down...weird.

I've been playing EQ since it came out.

My main is Stamp McFury a Gnome Warrior on Xev. Most of my time right now I'm playing my 48 Wizard (one level till Ice Comet :-D )

Alot of people get mad at the game because it encourages grouping. I don't understand why people wouldn't want to group in a MMORPG. If you just solo all the time then its just a RPG. There are some classes that can't solo very well but there are aslo some classes that excel at it. My warrior can't solo in the 50's but my Wiz has no trouble getting EP.

Plus all the expansions have added so much to the game that makes it easier ( Sow potions, The Nexus, the PoK Stones, the Bazaar). I remember when you had to take the boat to Gfay and spend hours surfing through /ooc text just to get that shiny sword you wanted.

If your starting out all the gear is alot cheaper because of MUDflation Oracle Robes sell for 1-300pp they used to sell for 1-3000pp so it would be alot easier to get good gear as a newbie.

Plus here hasn't been a game out that's been close to it yet. Sure WoW or EQ2 or FFXI might be the EQ killer but people have been saying that abought games like DAOC, AO, AC, SB, AC2, and Star Wars they come out . They usually Try to be EQ but better but turn out to be duds.

EQ 2 is being made by people who had nothing to do with the first EQ. You might think thats a good thing untill you look at the mess that is the PS2 Everquest.Alot of the Ideas that went into the PS2 EQ ( Item duration, No Real Death Penalty) are going to make there way to EQ2.

hehe sorry if i got a little long winded there ^^;
