yesterday i finally decided to try to get a complete PAL dc collection, so i downloaded a pal release list and checke the games i don't already have on german ebay. i was shocked!! 36 of the about 220 PAL DC games were not on ebay (2000 dc auctions total) at all, about 30 others only 1 time, some more only 2 times and of the other games about 20 weren't available under 25 EURO

what's up with the pal dc scene? are there really that many rare titles, have the production runs been that low?

looks like it will be a pain in the ass to complete this collection as there are only very few sources besides ebay for dc games here (fleas usually don't have them at all)

I've noticed that that games do seem to be dissapearing..well..I'm not sure where. They're just gone from most mainstream shops completely, they never turn up at car boot sales and never seem to be advertised in the paper. Even Gamestation's stock seems to be getting a little thin on the ground these days. It seems like most second hand shops have stopped taking them in, as they're no longer 'new' and not yet 'retro' - the same thing happened around here with N64 games.
I'm hoping that after a while they'll start turning up again - though I don't want to even think about how much they'll cost.

Out of interest, what were the scarce ones? I picked up a lot of PAL DC stuff as it was being closed out, and haven't really followed the scene recently. I suspect I may be sitting on a few gems here... :-D
I could probably be persuaded to part with some, as I don't think I'm ever going to go for a DC set (too pre-occupied with Master System & Megadrive stuff :) ), and instead will probably just end up keeping the ones I like. Which is admittedly quite a few... ;)

I did intend to try and get a decent collection of PAL DC Games but it's so frustrating as the cases that Sega used in this country are so poor. I wish they'd used a normal CD case as in the US & Japan as I've broken more cases than I'd have liked.

My local Another World (not one of my favourite shops but at least it's an independent and carries imports) has a reasonable collection of PAL DC games left so if you're after something specific, I might be able to get it for you. I've got my own list of DC games too, but my prices are way out-of-date at the mo. Mind you, someone bought NHK2K for £22 from me yesterday! I hadn't got round to lowering the price on it!

On a side note for you Europeans: did Evil Twin come out for DC in Europe? I thought it was supposed to, but all I'm finding is info for the PS2 release.

It certainly did. It was the last PAL DC game to be released and, as such, is pretty hard to come by. (similar situation to Deep Fear being the last PAL Saturn game)

Hey anagrama - I've NEVER seen a copy of Snk vs Capcom in PAL. Could just be where I live though.

I think Tom at DC History has the list here too, check it out

From American perspective (I'm shooting for complete US DC collection), some of the later releases were never seen in major retail chain, such as Urban Chaos, Iron Aces, Sno-Cross Championship. So I'm sure it's the same thing for PAL release, I heard Taxi 2 is the rarest PAL DC game, there're probably a few more.

20+ games don't seem to be a lot, in fact, some of the rarest US games can be found new, in pal version cheap, so get them while you can.

Taxi 2, yes, purely because it was France only, and relativly few copies at that. The other obvious ones are Samba [incidently, a ridiculously small number of copies were sold without being packaged with the maracas], Rez, Cannon Spike, SF3: 3rd Strike etc.
I'm sure there are more qualified experts who can give a better assessment...

I finished an ntsc DC collection (except Sonic LE) about a year and a half ago. Only paid new release price ($40ish) on maybe 4 games (Sonic 2, NHL2k2, couple others), got about 8 on ebay, and the rest from Gamestop (discount card, no shipping) and the flea market (no shipping, no tax). Wonder if that was the best time to collect DC?

Wonder if that was the best time to collect DC?

Yeah, it's usually the best time when everything's being cleared from shelves at bargain prices, and before known rarities exist and spiral into the silly-eBay-money arena.
Whereas now, prices for the quality games are creeping up again, and a lot of collectors are searching down the last few elusive titles, and finding them through non-eBay routes or for sensible proces is getting ever harder. It'll only get worse from here on though...

Incidentally, I only paid full price for 5 DC games (JSR, PSO, PSOv2, Rez and Ikaruga). Everything else was sub-£15. But then again, I'm a long way from a full set.

I still want to know what happened to my carefully compiled Japanese DC list I made back on the old board....

Is that still up? Is there any way I might be able to recover my completely ignored, carefully compiled information?

I could spare Floigan Bros, Charge & Blast, Championship Surfer, Tech Romancer, Tee Off and Nightmare Creatures 2, if you're interested in buying/trading? (PM me if your are)

I see a lot of the other games quite regularly for £5-£10, so I wouldn't call most of them 'rare'. Aside from the well-known rares I'd say the majority could be aquired cheaply with a bit of patience.
