my sister and brother in-law are going to Australia for 2 weeks over the Christmas holiday. I'd like to have them pick me up some games. Is it worth a look or am I wasting their time?
I'm actually more tempted to have my brother in law track down a 1973 XB GT Ford Falcon Coupe. I'll see if anyone can guess why i'd want one of those.

I'd be willing to shell out some cash for a complete "4 PAK All Action" for the SMS, which was only available in Australia. Boxed Hang-On Cards are always noce to have too! (the BOX for the Hang-on Card was Aussie only). Not to mention the rare SLIVER plastic SMS games that can be found there too.

Don't forget Australia is a PAL area though.

have you seen the place (in Seattle I think?) that imports those cars and make replicas of all the cars from the movie?
check out www.madmaxmovies.com & www.madmaxcars.com (I think this is the one I was thinking of)
There are lots of good classic video game items that were only released in Australia but I'm not sure how hard they are to find.

True, but the SMS, Jaguar, INTV, Colecovision, Atari XL/XE are all zone independant.. which means I get a lot of SMS games from down under :)

If you can find me a PAL copy of Space Channel 5 Part 2 for the PS2 for anything under US$25, I will be your freind forever, and will pay you back plus postage.. I *really* want that game!! Also, if you can find Samurai Shodown for the PAL Mega CD, that would be pretty sweet too. I'd go up to US$30 for that.

@y-bot, yup I've seen those sites. If you check the fan art section on MadMaxMovies.com they've got a painting I did of Max in high school posted.
@everyone else: thanks for the tips, I have a good idea of what to look for now.

I also hear that Animal Crossing is being released in Australia, but is not getting a release in Europe - so European gamers may well fork out for Australian copies, since they will be PAL.... personally I don't collect GC, but others may be interested.
Plus I head Oz is a good place to look out for Master System games since a lot of the non-US releases can be found there. And there are some unique, such as the boxed version of the Super Hang On card game.

I just talked to my sister and she agreed to hunt for me. she asked for a list so I included all the systems and games you guys have mentioned. I'll probably get some pics as well to help her out although she did say my brother in law has several cousins in Australia that will know what the stuff is and where to get it. (gee, that almost sounds like it's not games I'm talking about")
I would LOVE to score some SMS stuff.

The only problem with Australia and SMS stuff is the crappy quality of the Ozisoft manufactured games. Especially the labels which in europe (and the US) are a nice glossy red with black stripes, but in australia are a crummy non-glossy dark reddish brown with white stripes. (not to mention the crappy "hints 'n tips) lables)
I tend not to import from Australia for those reasons, though sometimes you CAN find the good "made in Japan" SMS games there if you really look.

I've gotten a good amount of Atari 2600 multi-carts from Austrailian collectors. You may want to have them keep an eye out for those.

It's pretty much hit or miss looking for rare 2nd hand game stuff in Australia. I've been trawling 2nd hand stores in Australia for about 15 years and highlights include :
43 English NeoGeo home carts complete including Ninja Masters , Neo Turfmasters,Metal Slug 2 , Art Of Fighting 3,Real Bout,Real Bout Special,Windjammers,Last Blade,Last Blade 2 /modified US Neo for $1800 Aus ($1200 US)
Boxed Pal NeoGeo home system for $69 Aus ($48 US)
Brand new boxed Pal Mega CD2 for $10 Aus ($7 US)
Super UFO disc system boxed complete for $20 Aus ($15 US)
JP Megadrive with Super Magic Drive and many discs for $35 Aus ($24 US)
Top Loading Nes X2 for $12 Aus each ($9 US each)
Pal Panzer Dragoon Saga complete for $40 Aus ($28 US)
Snow Bros complete (JP MD) for $20 Aus ($15 US)
Alien Soldier Pal version complete for $5 ($3 US)
Snatcher Pal version complete for Mega CD for $10 ($7 US)
Outrun 3D complete for SMS $10 Aus ($7 US)
Megaman The Wily Wars Pal complete for MD for $8 Aus ($6 US)
PC Engine GT with 25 Hu cards for $50 Aus ($36 US)
Boxed Saturn VCD card for $15 Aus ($11 US)
12 Datel Pro CDX adapters for Megadrive/Genesis for $5 Aus each ($3 US)
Boxed Pal Vectrex mint complete for $60 Aus ($42 US)
Amstrad Mega PC with monitor fully working for $50 Aus ($38 US)
Boxed complete SMS 3d glasses for $10 Aus ($7 US)
Tons of SMS , MD/Genesis , Snes , 3DO, Saturn stuff over the years.
However , it has been noticeably harder to find decent stuff over the past few years due to people raiding these types of stores in the hope of making a profit on e-Bay .

that's a pretty significant haul. I'm not expecting much but I had to take advantage of my sister being in Australia to have her take a peek around for games there. maybe she'll get lucky and find some cool stuff.

You can always look for Terranigma for the snes, if you collect for that system.

This will make you cry. Last year on my honeymoon in Melbourne I found (and bought) the above game (cart only) for $19AU.
