Check it out! This comes to us by MINDREC, who in turn comes to us from the mind of BT Garner. TG16 fans know this name, he's been runing the Turbo List Server for AGES.

Just go and buy it. :)

DP Game Review forthcoming.

and for any of you within driving distance of Roanoke, VA; I will be giving a short talk on "what it took to get a homebrew game developed" at the MAGFest (Mid Atlantic Gaming Festival), details are available at http://MAGFest.org . In addition to my talk, there will be an Implode tournament where you can win a copy of Implode (and I will have copies available for sale there as well).

I bought a copy of Implode as soon as it was released...even emailed Mindrec a couple of times saying to dump a few on eBay to get a bigger buzz happening. Duo owners, support the homebrew movement so that we can have some future releases :)

I can't buy this homebrew game... :(
because I don't have this game system... :(
and also because I don't have money for that right now... :(

But, did you realize that? the bonus game "CRASH" included with Implode looks like CIRCUIT 24 in my homebrew game CV Gamepack?

The game is actually similar to the original Arcade game from
Sega which was called... Crash.

Although as far as I know my version is the only one with an
"Insane" mode (where te enemy car is the same color as the
background, so the only way you can see him is when he
passes over the dots). It does live up to its name.

Actually I thought the arcade game you were going for there was "Head-On"... ?

Anyway, here's the blurb in Tips & Tricks for the December 2002 issue. I'll do a full review of the game here on DP.

Implode (TurboDuo, published by MindRec) It's hard to believe that it took this long, but the very first "homebrew" game for the TurboGrafx-16 CD system (and TurboDuo) is finally here! Pulled together by a talented team of longtime Turbo enthusiasts, Implode plays a bit like a "reverse" version of Baku Baku (the blocks appear from the bottom of the screen) and is a highly addictive puzzle game. The CD also includes mini-games "Hump Ball" and "Crash", the latter of which is a translation of the arcade game Head On where you have to collect the dots in a racetrack that allows you to shift lanes at strategic points while the enemy is working in the opposite direction. This is an impressive first release for MindRec, right down to the packaging. There's just no way to tell that this was released years after the system was discontinued. http://www.mindrec.com

You are correct -- Crash was most likely the name of one of the knock offs :D

That's great -- thank you!

Yes, it is compatible with any PC Engine system (so long a Super System Card is used).
