COVERAGE!!!!
http://www.gis.net/~bertulli/02Nov03a.htm
Ok, boys and girls, it's that warm and fuzzy time of the year again - fall NECG. That's right. Sunday, November 2nd, tenatively scheduled to run from 2 to 7pm (since we all have to get to bed early for work the next morning!)
Here's the deal: you need to be there. No one is turned away, even Property of H for goodness sake. So just show up.
We'll be featuring the usual trading, gaming, chatting, beer drinking, and a whole lot more. In fact, let's run down some special features of this meet:
- Warlords Tournament! (that Christian will lose, as per usual)
- Demo of Kirk Israel's JoustPong homebrew!
- One or two copies of our special rereleased 2600 game may be floating around seeking new homes (you know which one!)
- Sam Adams Octoberfest beer (deeeeeelicious!)
- More games for trade (and even sale) than one could ever expect to arrange in Christian's game room
- Christian's game room
- Um, more stuff!
So yeah, no excuses this time. We'll be pushing the meet more, complete with driving directions and other such information as the day approaches. Sunday, November 2nd. Be there. Yes, you.

I already took the sunday off the week before for my friend's holloween party (who moved to maine now so I only see her when I go to this party), and I can't take two in a row. I'm a keyholder at a strip store Gamestop, and there's just one part timer besides the management staff there.

Cool, so that's that much less traffic I have to deal with that day. It's a bitch getting around my town on game days.
So do we bring our own beer or will there be beer there? Both have been implied.

bring beer, lots of beer, more than you can possibly drink, preferably good stuff, bottles not cans, i like lagers, pilsners...remember the more beer i drink the better the deals i agree to!
also feel free to bring chips or what not, no more of those generic label cheese puffs please, i still have some leftover :)

Just thought I would say I'll be there this time. I got sick last time but Chad has very nicly offered to drive me up there if I just go the short distance to his house and buy beer on the way. :)
And I seriously think I may bring a complete (with games) 3DO and Sega CD system with me to sell or trade..... :D
klimatron8
10-06-2003, 07:28 PM
**drooling over the 3DO** No Pats=I'm in! like I always say: prior planning prevents poor performance. BTW - If anyone has any ngpc games they will part with please bring'em along. For instance maybe you splurged for the $80 ngpc package at EB, but now you want to dump the NeoTurf Masters game- i'm your man. LOL

I've got quite a bit of tradebait I plan on bringing. I still have some testing to do, but I should have multiple boxed Odyssey2s as well as multiple boxed ti99s, possibly a Saturn and multiple n64s and NES to go along with quite a few games. I need some space in my basement!
christianscott27
10-07-2003, 09:22 AM
things i have found that trade well-
dreamcast games, we're not just retrogamers
funky controllers
game boxes, a lot completist collectors attend
cash, works ok with some people, me i only sell common stuff to begining collectors but others like the green stuff, always sub-ebay prices
as a rule carts move better than systems, most people have the hardware and want the software
castle legos and porn 8 tracks, we've all got weaknesses
odd bits of PC hardware also tend to move
chadtower
10-07-2003, 09:45 AM
wtf is a porn 8 track?
ClubNinja
10-07-2003, 01:10 PM
We have a regular (who won't be coming this time) into collecting adult 8-track tapes. It's become a cult thing at NECG meets, and any adult/porn 8-track will get you plenty of attention.
chadtower
10-07-2003, 01:17 PM
That doesn't help me figure out what a porn 8 track actually is... I know 8 tracks... but they're just audio, yes?
christianscott27
10-07-2003, 01:34 PM
http://www.8trackheaven.com/Images/shaftman.jpg
well it all started when joe grand and i hit a flea market and found some 8 tracks mixed in with some carts, several of them were XXX. the sheer cad funk of the cover art made them a must have for joe, creator of what i think is the only palm porn app "hairy palms". so joe brought them along to the first NECG meet and a providence game collector "uncle freddy" took great interest in them, he already had a collection going IIRC they made some sort of atari/8 track swap. since then we've had that as an inside joke and several more 8 track porns have turned up at the meets. they're really not much to listen to unless you like gooey "ohhh baby"s. sadly joe has moved to the west coast and uncle freddy is overseas, still though if anyone brings one i'd love to give it a whirl in my 2XL robot.

christianscott27
10-08-2003, 02:43 PM
better still, explain it to us at the meet, which is a pretty easy drive from nashua, we've had people from maine, conn., NY and even jersey but still no live free or die folks, be the first!
Sylentwulf
10-08-2003, 03:04 PM
Plan on it :) Now that I have time I can't extrapolate (That word just popped in my head, don't even know what it means, heh)
Tag - "tagging" a topic so it adds to your "view my posts" list, so you can fully read and reply the topic when you have more free time to put into the post, as opposed to adding a meaningless 3-second post that wouldn't make much sense. Also handy for keeping track of posts you may want to keep, instead of forgetting about them.
So, as you can see, now that I have more time, I explained, and plan on being there (as of now, I plan on it anyways, with twin 4-year olds, schedules don't always keep)

Is it worth bringing trade bait that isn't game related, like DVDs, electronics, etc?
ClubNinja
10-09-2003, 01:22 PM
Sure thing.
I've traded a hard drive in the past, traded for some audio CDs (Pink Floyd Pulse 2-disc set, about damn time!), and witnessed the trades of movies, CDs, action figures, beer, and a whole bunch more. Anything is valid for trade at NECG - even wives. I mean, uh, yeah... bring some DVDs and stuff.

Count me in! I'm bringing a bag full of tradebait and a wallet full of cash. I'm planning on taking the cheap Chinatown bus to and from the place, unless someone is willing to drive me there from NYC. (I'll provide the beer, the banter, and gas money) No takers? No problem, I'll take the bus over. Any NYC people going my way? Geelw, I'm looking in your direction! Oh, and Christian, can you confirm that the train station I need to get off at is Jamaica Plain? What is the name of the train stop in Chinatown, and which direction do I take the train? Thanks and see you guys there,

the train station in chinatown is called "chinatown" predictably enough!
its on washington st, if you pass the ritz hotel one way or NE med cntr. the other you have gone too far, easy to find actually. its on the smae line (orange) as my stop forest hills, thats the last stop on the outbound side. head out of the station toward south street, get to the trolley tracks cross the road and walk down the parkpath to my blue gray place. same as last time minus the foot of snow.
see you there, guys let me know if theres a particular system you want set up for your battle (saturn? dreamcast?)

I didn't make that many trades, actually. I must not have brought things people were interested in. I did do some buying. I picked up a complete (and untouched... the baggies are still sealed) o2 Great Wall Street Fortune that is perfect. I picked up 5 laserdiscs (godfather, jurassic park, snow white, aladdin, terminator 2)... Final Zone 2 for TG... uh, most of the trades I got were done with small type stuff while slightly drunk so I won't remember them until I look in the bins in my car.
christianscott27
11-03-2003, 09:27 AM
many an attendee will offer up the fog of beer as a reason for some of the trades (my plan is working :devilish: ) , that includes me as well. heres a start though, mostly i forget what i unloaded and recall what i got.
from soulblazer-
panasonic fz-1 3d0 console with 2 controllers and a dozen games, sega CD games- third world war, heart of the alien, shining force CD, dark wizard ( a top loader went his way)
from chad- TI99 m*a*s*h, SAT-shining wisdom (love them working designs games)
from keir- SNES lord of the rings, ultima false prophet
from clubninja- 2600 brazil tennis, that "proto label" wordtris for SNES
from sylentwulf- super deluxe multi bit screwdriver set, GC to GBA boxed cable
from joe y- two boxed superfami games- baseball something and hook, 3do twisted
from todd- game gear goodies
and a good deal more stuff still to be sorted, not the least of which is the joustpong proto, hehe i have the only one in the world hehe. i also did my part for building up some new collectors, selling off $50 of stuff and gving away some commons and such...
best of all everyone pitched in on the clean up and my wife had not one complaint, which is a new record! and yes she did ask who the really nice polite guy was, it was chadtower of course.
My loot:
3DO Slayer (CD only)
2600 Alpha Beam with Ernie
2600 Checkers (Activision)
2600 Cookie Monster Munch (which I got home and realized I already had, but at least I got a better label)
2600 Math Grand Prix
2600 Secret Quest
2600 Spitfire Attack
5200 Blueprint (complete)
Colecovision Buck Rogers
Commodore 64 box of disks (thanks Chad!)
Sega CD Back Up Cartridge
TG-16 Bonk's Adventure
TG-16 Final Zone II
TG-16 Ninja Spirit
TG-16 Power Golf
The Joust Pong tournament was great. Very fast paced. Each match probably should have been a best of 3 since once you miss the ball they just seem to fly past you. In round 2 I had a 7-2 lead and still lost (you need 10 points to win). That seemed to happen a lot.
And as always, the best part is meeting people, including Toby, Jaime (though she didn't mention me above :( ), Willie and Greg (who I didn't even realize was SoulBlazer until I was leaving).
chadtower

Chad - It's possible that you did get a Final Zone II, as I saw two different copies floating around yesterday.
Unfortunately, my box of unsorted goodies sits at home, but from work I can recall:
- Channel F system (first model) with carts 3, 4, and 13
- Microvision with Blockbuster (which will sit right next to the Game.com!)
- Coleco Pac-Man tabletop
- Game Gear Sonic Labyrinth
- 2600 Crossbow
- Intv Tropical Trouble
- TG16 Blazing Lasers and TG16 game secrets book
- Genesis Raiden Trad
- Mattel Soccer handheld (needs new battery connector)
- Saturn Street Fighter: The Movie (super cheese)
- Sega 32X After Burner, Space Harrier, and Star Trek
- two TI-99 carts that I don't remember
- spare SNES controller
Also, I pulled in $81 on the night, which is just peachy keen by me since selling is usually only a last resort if trades aren't available.
Great day!

11-03-2003, 02:20 PM
I mostly came to the meet hoping to unload stuff -- I had a complete 3DO system with about 12 games, a complete Sega CD/32X system with 6 and 4 games respectfully, a few PSX and PC games, and some other minor stuff.
I traded the 3DO to Christan for the top loader. I also got two boxed NES games for it, and Breath of Fire II for the SNES to sell on EBay, along with a screwdriver kit from Sylentwulf and a PSX/N64-PC adapater. Also got a old PC game and about $35 in cash.
Since I did'nt have any luck selling the Sega system, I put it up on EBay along with the Breath of Fire II since it's complete. I need the money this month due to car bills.
The toploader was a nice find, though, and I think it was a even trade. :)
I'm not sure WHY Christian took the Panasonic 3DO, as I saw a Goldstar in his amazing game room. @_@
