Ye Olde DP Randome Game Generator hath chosen this medieval fantasy for the Intellivision, named "Swords & Serpents".

This Imagic gem was an exclusive for Intellivision and is typically either adored or maligned. The fact that the game is nearly impossible to beat with just one player (not to mention that it requires the patience of a saint) is negated by many thanks to its depth and very slick dragon "boss".

What do you think of the game? Write your mini-review here.

DP Guide sez:

Swords & Serpents (Intellivision, by Imagic) $8/R2
Designed by Brian Dougherty. The biggest drawback of this title is it's reliance on a second player. You CAN play with only one player, but it's not even close to being fun. Adding a second player allows for simultaneous play of two different characters, both of whom are quite reliant
on each other, and makes it an excellent game. PERIODICALS: Named by Electronic Fun Magazine as one of the "50 Best Games" in March 1984. c1983 Imagic. #720009-1A.

Yes, it is also the name of an NES game by Acclaim. Not a great game, either...was a first-person RPG a la Bard's Tale but nowhere near as good.

To me, this game wasn't bad... but I think it's a little overrated. I heard so much about it, but when I played it (single player), I was kinda bored. I think it might be one of those titles that require you to get into the game a little more. I also know that it would be much more fun two-player. I do like the look of the box art and the overlays though.. I think it deserves another chance, and I'll give it one someday when I have the time. But for RPGs, I would still take Tower of Doom over this any day.

I never played this game, but I remember that ads for this game were on the back of like EVERY 32 page Archie comic back in the day for about 3 months. (in fact I still have those old issues... sometimes I go back thru my comic book collections just to look at old ads!)
But back to the topic, I never had an Intellivision, but this ad always taunted me, showing the INTVs graphical superiority; and the idea of it being a fantasy type game...
