Take the article with a grain of salt:

But it sounds encourging. :D

i honestly know 3 people who have either bought another one for them or a gift for someone else, or have just impulse bought the system that they have been putting off or just never thought of getting it.

Actually kinda hooked a few on smash Bros. this weekend.

^BEST. AVATAR. EVER. I hate how the local NC media treats the Braves as "our team". Funny they didn't do that until 1991...when they started winning again.

The only team I dislike more is the Yankees. Go O's!

Oh, and uh....go Nintendo!

"The price cut is working great," added Dan DeMatteo, president of GameStop. "Our sales of Nintendo GameCube have increased more than fourfold. We are currently increasing our shipment requests for the system throughout the holidays."

His vagueness is a little disappointing. Translation: Last month they sold 1. This month they sold 5. :) Thanks! Don't forget to tip your waitress!

But seriously folks, let's hope that it's more like 100K to 500K or more. The GameCube friggin' rocks. Super Monkey Ball alone is like crack. But in convenient, harmless Monkey Ball form.

And has anyone played Billy Hatcher? It looks so darn cool, but I haven't heard much about it yet.

haven't played it, but it got some very promising reviews. Ranging from a 7 to a 9 out of ten (through several different mags)

Whoop dee doo! Jaguar sales soared too when they slashed the system price to $99, then $50. It's not going to save the system or convince developers to jump on board now. It didn't work for the DC either.

Read some numbers about in a 6 month period, they shipped 80,000 gamecubes worldwide. In the same amount of time, they shipped 3.5 million gameboy advance systems.

The price drop convinced me! Especially considering Walmart gave me Metroid Prime with it for FREE! :rocker:

I've tried it out, and it's a fun little game. The egg-rolling gameplay is surprisingly easy to get into, while everything has a bright, Sonic-style atmosphere. I wish Sonic Team would make a Burning Rangers sequel, but Billy Hatcher will do nicely in the meantime.

I'd pick it up, but I have to squirrel away my cash for Viewtiful Joe, coming next week.

By the way, it's nice that Nintendo is dropping prices and packing the GameCube with a Zelda anthology and whathaveyou, but I wish they'd cut some deals for those of us who already own systems. When are some of their older high-profile titles, like Super Mario Sunshine, going to hit the $20 price point?

maybe when they release it in a greatest hits version

The only problem with that is Nintendo's Player's Choice (GH) games are always $29.99. Makes no sense to me.

But serously, I got my Gamecube at launch and I have been more than happy with the games I have. I think its a shame most people don't give it a chance. I already have more game for my cube than I do for my PS2 and there is a bunch of more good games coming out soon.

As far as Mario going to $20, Starfox Adventures and Pikmin finally went to $20, but they both have sequels coming out, so maybe when the Mario sequel comes out. Or you can just wait for another Blockbuster sale...

Oh, and like Drexel, I bought mine at launch, but I've been enjoying the wonderful $10 clearance offerings for many months now. In fact, I've had it longer than the PS2 and Xbox, which both seem to collect more dust.

a lot of the brand new games cost $49.99 retail, its gonna be like ink cartridges pretty soon, you might as well buy a system if it comes with a game.

Really an unbeatable deal now, especially if you get the massive walmart bundle for $99.

i love nintendo.......it's holsum fun, just that simple.

EDIT: i agree though, the worst part about GC is finding games for better prices. the nintendo circle is becoming so tight that all nintendo fans are willing to pay top dollar, since there aren't many, and there aren't many sellers. from an ebay perspective. and what's this launch deal.........with $10 deals......uhhh......i love my gc but can't rationalize the game prices. i only buy used for all my system unless it drops to $30 and once in a lifetime $40. i think that should have been nintendo's cut. $129 system with no game over $40.......all in favor say I :-D

that said, all systems should have a $40 top dollar on games. $50 is an outrage for a game......come on. we already pay enough for the system......me thinks. $40 top, and $19.99 for older titles.......no middle line crap. pretty much like a majority of the playstation stuff. and N64 after it was on the shelf for a little while($60 then $40......losers, i bought goldeneye with paper route money, and the lady at kmart thought i was joking when i wanted competitors pricing(walmart) which was 3 cents less......that's almost one newspaper deliver  )

I agree the price point is too high for software. I found Nintendo brand Gamecube controllers new at Target for $20 though, which in my opinion is pretty good for a next gen. system.. The clearance games do rule for $10!

I played the viewtiful Joe Demo at Target finally. That thing is incredible!!!! A must have.

That has to be one of the most damaging typos ever, and sadly a lot of places never got around to correcting it :(

Nintendo shipped 800,000 units in that period... one of the zeros was missed off the report. Upon seeing the false figure, all the doom and gloom mongers came straight out the woodwork

Of course the sales have improved the next step is to give them away. I mean really no one wants one, even though in my eyes its the best system out.

Bwaaahaaahaaahaaaaa! That was a good schnapp!

Not to be a downer here, but don't forget the Dreamcast's sales soared too when it was on the way out. Not to say the GC is going to be discontinued soon, but I know with the DC I was always wondering where all there people were when the console actually had a shot.

GameCube Sales Soar

Hey! If they mark them down to $20, they'll positively fly off the shelves! C'mon, dropping the price to cheaps-ville then claiming a sales victory is assinine if you're pricing yourselves outta business. Gamecube sales would have to remain steady at the level they're at for a couple of years for this plan to work. However, after this initial burst, the lack of software support and customer apathy will kick in and the 'Cube'll die. Hey, I watched it happen with my beloved Dreamcast. It's like deja vu, it is.

Where are they selling new GC games for $10 and what games are they?

josekortez
10-03-2003, 06:51 PM
@ Zaxxon - There are $10 GC games to be had if you're not choosy. Offhand, I can name a few that I've gotten that you still might be able to find:

Frogger Beyond @ Toys R Us
Swingerz Golf @ KB Toys
Street Hoops @ Circuit City
Cubix: Robots for Everyone @ Blockbuster (exclusive with DVD) (I've got an extra copy up for trade)

But if you expect to see the more popular games for $10 new, it probably won't happen much at this point. Trust me, I spend a lot of time shopping around...

@ everyone - When is the Game Boy Player going to be marked down? I need one now!

I don't think they will markdown the GameBoy player anytime soon.... I say this only because it is too close to Christmas, and I think that is on the top of a lot of GameCube Owner's lists. That and Mario Kart Double Dash. I can't wait to play 8-player Kart. boo ya!
