the answer is no...no 2600 game is worth that...how much people with too much money are willing to spend, that 's another question...We'll just have to see what happens with the auction.

Speculation. Maybe it's not worth $1000 right now. What will someone pay for it in 10 years?

I think someone should check BuyAtari's sanity.

20 bucks! Classic gaming is at it's prime. The generation in 10 years will have games that are so realistic the blocky atari 2600 will not even ahve a collectors value. I hope not, but it will. Congrats Adam, on your win. You didn't have one of those already?

I sort of wonder who will be interested in the classic systems after a generation passes, sort of like vintage movie collectors and those who appreciate silent films. There will be devoted, hard core afficianados but they will be a small audience indeed while the rest of the population will have 'moved on'.

He hasn't won yet ;)
And yes, I am seriously considering going for this :P

I think you will see 2600 collecting peak around the time we all start to retire.. so 30 years from now will be the peak of the 2600 collecting.

I don't think $1,000 is really to much. In my humble opinion it is worth 10x that, of course it is my auction so I may be biased.

Anybody have any idea of why this game is so rare and how many were made?
$1000! I'm really envious. And that's just the game only! @_@
What would one with a box and manual command? LOL

Bah, I know of at least twice as many more people that own Video Life than Eli's Ladder. This is the one to try for, so bid bid bid!!! :D

No question, this game is worth it too! I am too busy working on my SNES stuff to go after that, but if I was looking right now, I would be bidding!

Aren't some willing to pay this kind of cabbage for Stadium Events for NES? Why would that be worth more than the rarest Atari game.
I'm just relieved to know that there are others more ill than I in this hobby. :D :D

well when i looked at the auction before i read this thread, i said this particular cartridge would sell for about $ 800 because of the damaged front label.. i guess i was wrong. the game eli's ladder is definetely worth 1000$ right now, because a lot of people want it and not a lot of people have it for sale. i would guess that this game comes up for sale maybe once a year if youre lucky.
i would estimate there to be at least 25 copies of this game in the hands of collectors right now..
i actually had this game at one time but i traded it away... oh well, it has a better home now anyway! ;)

I've never seen an Eli's Ladder on ebay.
The only other game I've seen go for this much was miss piggy's wedding, and I think maybe that sealed malagai DP auctioned off?
My theory is - whatever it sells for on ebay IS INDEED what it is worth, because it takes at LEAST TWO people to get the bidding to where it is.

Does that mean that you believe that ebay sales should be taken into consideration when putting a value on a game? Because of this theory is correct then most of the prices in the DP guide are wayyyy to low.

DP price <> eBay price
We all know that eBay in the hands of two (or more) people can cause silly prices to erupt ;)
The guide has always maintained that the prices quoted are reasonable but low on the side of places such as eBay...
