Hey, for all of you interested in picking up a Trance Vibrator, Play-Asia has come across a few (heh heh) and is selling them for $14.90. Yes, fifteen bucks.

I've never heard of this before. Is/was it rare, or just a curiousity?

It is an accessory for use with Rez (PS2). It was originally packaged with the Rez Limited Edition (JP), and was never released commercially in the U.S. For this reason, you'll probably never see it used at a Gamestop. Of course, considering the uses people have come up with for it, maybe you don't want a used one. (Note the washable cloth cover!) Shortly after those pictures were published as part of an article at Gamegirladvance.com, the ebay price on a Rez LE set went through the roof. Prices over $150 weren't uncommon. I haven't looked lately, as I picked one up a few months ago.

It's just vibrates, like your Dual Shock controller, but it's handy for putting in other places. And while it was released with the JP version of Rez, it works perfectly well with the U.S. version of Rez played on a U.S. PS2.

Wasn't davidbrit looking for one of these?

And now they are sold out, as I discovered when I tried to buy one. I already have one, but I was kind of curious about whether you could have two of them running off of a PS2 at the same time. After all, it's got two USB ports. Double the fun, n'est ce pas?

Actually, you can still order one. They're on backorder and should have more in soon. I just backordered one myself :D

Do you really think that they'll get more? I've heard horror stories (not involving Play-Asia in particular) about things being backordered...FOREVER. Or is that exclusively a Buy-Rite deal?

maxlords
10-09-2003, 04:14 PM
Lots of the Trances have been printed, and play-asia is a reputable site so far as I've heard. Buy-Rite...that's an entirely different story *shiver* I expect it'll show up :)

Disturbingly, my order also comes with a free package of tissues...not sure WHAT to think of that....

Well, I went ahead and (back)ordered a TV. The twin vibe experiment must proceed!

Oh, the tissues are for dabbing a tear from your eye when you ultimately perceive Rez's total awesomeness.

I don't know what yer lady's gonna use 'em for, tho.

Heh. Honestly, Rez is less impressive on the PS2 than it is on the DC. The DC one makes the PS2 version look like a joke, seriously. The only reason I kept my PS2 version is for the Trance ;)

I've said it before and I'll say it again: You gotta get a pair of force-feedback headphones along with Rez and the Trance Vibrator. First time I saw the game, was in the Kobe Sannomiya center-gai Seiden (electronics retailer). They were demo-ing the game with such headphones. Absolutely killed everyone that I saw try it (including myself). It's a great game alone or with the T.V., but damn if it's not hallucinatory in a dark room with vibrating headphones on.

I've never even SEEN headphones like that. Would love to at least see pics!

I think these are the ones that he's talking about. Anyway, these are the force feedback ones that came in that Limited Edition Rez set that was sold in Japan, only 1000 copies.

RE: Vibrating headphones -- Holy crap! Now THOSE have got to be rare.

RE: DC ver. of Rez -- M.lords, I've heard that the DC version is better before, but I'm not aware of the details. What makes the DC version better? And what's the fair market price for a copy these days?

Well, honestly, the main thing is that the graphics are FAR more detailed on the DC for some reason. More color, more vibrancy, more textures....it's just stunning! I don't have the PC equipment to do a side by side, but I have both and I had the PS2 one for a while before I got the DC one. Picked up a Euro DC one for $25 (insanely cheap) and my jaw almost dropped when I sat down with it! I can't really explain it but it's MUCH better looking!

As for those headphones.....anyone know where I can get a pair? I'd pay some good heavyduty cash for those!

And figure $40-60 for the DC one.

At $33.99, not bad...

IntvGene: Those are exactly the one's I saw them demo-ed with.
Maxlords: I have no clue as to finding a pair of the originals, but you can find vibrating headphones which work for all audio sources through eBay at times. It took some searching, but I found some several months ago.

Nah, I'd HAVE to have the Rez ones....I don't want generic ones...I want wicked cool ones that say Rez since Sega made official ones!

Well, you better track down one of those special sets. I've lost two Yahoo Japan auctions for them.. both went over $200. They're definitely tough to get a hold of since Sega only made 500 units. And, as you know Rez has quite a following.

Here is that guy's page that shows what came with the set. It's in Japanese, but you can still just click on the links and see the pictures.

While I still think we can build our own Trance Vibrators pretty easily (hmm, those 2 force feedback USB mice I have with the dead buttons might come in handy...), I think the next thing I'm going to try with Rez is the Aura Interactor. Got it for free from somebody and it looks like I'll have to make up a cable to use it, but it will be interesting to see if it does anything. In case everyone's not familiar with the Interactor, basically it is a backpack with a speaker in it - should make for an interesting effect.

Let me know if you get the Interactor working. I recently found one in the closet, never used.

I back ordered a trance vibrator from Play-Asia, looks like they're expecting a restock close to Wednesday.

Hmm. Just got my second email saying "sorry, but we'll have to send it to you later". In this case, Oct. 28 is the new target date. I don't like the way this is heading. Hoom Hom.

One for me and one for a friend that asked me to get him one. The third was an accident...somehow managed to put 2 instead of one on on of the orders. I just hope I get them!

Finally got around to trying Rez with the Aura Interactor. Actually I tried it a few weeks ago, but the dirty old Interactor I was given didn't inspire much confidence, and I didn't think it worked quite right. Picked up a new one yesterday for a few bucks and just gave it a shot with better results. First off, ignore the manual and turn the filter way down, to 3 or so. This way it only picks up the deeper tones - on the recommended setting you hear everything through the Interactor, largely drowing out your other, better sound source. Put the Interactor on your back and lean back into your chair, hopefully a nice cushy one to muffle as much sound as possible. The result is a pretty good thump. I suppose it does improve the experience a bit, but it doesn't do a whole lot more than my big subwoofer already did when turned up loud enough to annoy the neighbors. The biggest problem is that the quality of the sound from the Interactor is so bad that any bit of noise from it taints the audio experience of the game. Maybe with some tinkering it will be better.

The most interesting thing about the Interactor is the amount of heat generated by the base unit. After only playing the first level of the game, the unit was uncomfortably hot. Thankfully the wire from the base unit to the backpack is quite long, so you should be able to place the base unit somewhere safe.

OK. The TV arrived today. :) My curiosity is satisfied--the PS2 (with Rez) does support two simultaneously plugged-in Trance Vibrators. Each appears to be fully powered in this configuration, although I didn't have any reason to believe that they wouldn't be.

damn.... I bought the Trance vibrator after coming to Tokyo this summer. I already had the US version of the game but I didnt have the vibrator for my girl. Anyway, the store had tons of the stand alone trance vibrators brand new marked down to around $5 per.

now here's a thought.
get a dozen and strap them all over your girl's body and hook them into a single wire...

hit play with Rez and see what happen... :p

Can anyone tell me why the Trance Vibrator is shaped the way it is (I'm thinking actual links to developer ideas/etc.)? I have one, and it's honestly not properly shaped to effectively use in a sexual manner (for women or men), and it's not particularly well shaped for the gaming experience. Good idea, relatively poor design. IMO, force-feedback headphones are far more impressive and immersive to use in conjunction with Rez.

Good question. And while I don't have any answers to your questions, I am now wondering about the feasibility of transferring the guts of the TV into a "John Holmes Ram-Master".
