I've heard a lot of good things about the Nexus memory cards (they come with a cable for backing up saves on your PC).
Also, about a year ago I got a cool Sega brand 4x memory card EB was clearing out for only $9.99, and you can't go wrong with first party stuff (except Xbox "Duke" but that's a tale for another time). See if you can find one of those, they are compatible with 99% of the library (only one I can think of that has problems is Dynamite Cop). It has a button on top to basically "switch" between 4 different memory banks, only drawback is no vmu screen, but no other 2x+ mem. card for DC has those either so it's just a minor inconvenience.

The official 4x memory card by sega is quality, it isn't a VMU, and doesn't work on some random earlier games like Blue Stinger (I think) , but otherwise, it is quality, thats what my brother uses, and he has had no problems
