Anybody else here completely bored with the Weapon Master mode in Soul Calibur 2? It's not that it isn't challenging. In fact, it's downright difficult in certain stages. It's just that the tasks aren't that exciting. I just finished the stage against Berserker where you fight him like a hundred times, and the final "obstacle" I was waiting for was the floor quaking after a 3 count. That's pretty lame in my opinion. I'm not the greatest SC2 player, so having to replay the same stage over and over is just tedious. The Mission Battle mode in SC on the Dreamcast was more rewarding...

Also, in a related topic, do you have to beat the game with other characters to unlock weapons for the character you're using, or do you have to buy them to get them faster? So far, I've been playing only with Mitsurugi, and I've only unlocked weapons for Taki and Raphael. And what's up with Link not showing up as a CPU enemy in the arcade mode of the GameCube version?

You just buy the weapons for everybody. The thing I hated is you go through hell to unlock all these kick ass weapons, then you can't even use them in Vs mode. I think that totally ruined the game. the original SC was great single player, cause every time people came over there were new characters and features in vs mode, that I had unlocked.

You need to unlock extra vs mode. I'm sure you have extra arcade, so go beat extra arcade mode once, or try it 5 times, and that will unlock extra vs.

As for unlocking stuff, I don't see how any fighting game can do a better job. Beat the game with every character? Boring. Just play for hours upon hours ala MvC2? Stupid.

I believe I only had to beat it once to get the extra vs...or maybe I unlocked it in Weapon Master.

Anyway, I think the whole thing is a great idea. I think the game would have been a lot worse if it was just arcade and vs. At least this gives you an interesting way of unlocking things with a half decent story. I"d rather play through the weapon master mode (which I did) than...for example...play through arcade 50 times to unlock something. Now thats boring.
