Years ago when the Genesis and SNES were still popular, my next door neighbor signed me up to be a tester for a new modem thingy for the Genesis called the X-Band. I had never heard of it at the time.
Eventually, a package arrived in the mail containing what I guess could be described as a demo version of the Genesis X-Band. The cart itself was made of clear plastic and had no label or markings on it whatsoever. This was months before the actual product was released to the public, by the way.
Anyways, I still have the thing and was wondering if it is worth anything. If so, how much? I haven't been able to find much info on the value of the X-Band, not even in DP's comprehensive Genesis rarity guide.
Also, am I correct in assuming that this is a demo cart or would this be a proto? Any insight is appreciated.

Regular releases are not in clear plastic so what you got isn't a regular issue for sure. I doubt it's a prototype but more likely a preview version. It might be worth a lot more than the standard XBand (which is worth oh about $1 as they can't be used anymore)

Got any pictures you can share?

I'll second the motion to get pictures...

Dunno if I'd call it a proto or a preview though... I remember a JerryG editorial on the fact that there are 2600 "preview" carts that most people call prototypes, or they sometimes get released as the real deal. If you leave out a "preview" category altogether, the only way to refer to your modem is as a prototype. If you include that category, then we have to figure out where to draw the line I guess.

I have a scan of the Xband in question. It's in PDF format and requires Adobe Acrobat Reader to view. However, I don't know how to put it up on the message board. Any help?

Put it on a web space and post a link here to it. If you don't have a web space, you could email someone for it. I have a web space that comes with my ISP package that doesn't have any off site linking restriction like most free sites do but it's limited to 5MB max. If your PDF is small, you could email them to me and I could upload it to my space and mail back the link to you. (or post the link here myself)

Here is a link to a pic of my Xband. Be warned, it is a rather large file for some reason.

Sorry guys. I just realized that link isn't going to help anyone. I'll try again but damn is this frustrating.

Why is it a PDF anyway? If you scan the pic, you should be able to save it as a JPG, GIF or PNG graphic, which I suspect will be smaller than the PDF.

Okay, I'll try that. In case you couldn't tell, I've never done this before. :)

If someone can email me I can send a JPG of the XBand to them as an attachment in a reply message.
