FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Free Downloadable "Meteor Blaster" Game Released for PC Engine and Turbo Duo Systems

Research Triangle Park, NC, 03 October 2003 - MindRec is proud to announce the release of its latest offering "Meteor Blaster," a game for the PC Engine (PCE) gaming systems. The basic version is free and available for immediate download.

"Meteor Blaster" puts the player in command of a spaceship which must survive wave after wave of meteors. As the game progresses, the meteors become faster and get more numerous. The object is to clear every stage while you avoid running your spaceship into a meteor.

This free basic release will be followed by a CD-based basic version in mid-October 2003, and followed-up with a commercial SCD release of a deluxe version in early 2004. The Commercial SCD version will feature enhanced gameplay and game cinemas, as well as CD audio.

"Meteor Blaster is the first shooter released for the PCE in over 5 years," said MindRec founder and developer Bt Garner. "I am really excitied to get Meteor [Blaster] into the hands of PCE fans and hear what they think about it."

Is the TG-16 super hard to develop for or something? With it's large and rabid fan base I'm surprised there's been almost no new games homebrewed. I know of only two finished games, not counting demos etc..

Rabid? Yes. Large? Hell no.

Well, large base of collectors compared to some other classic systems. With all the homebrews Atari systems from the 2600 to Jaguar has generated you would think the TG-16 could get at least a few.

Scale of time needed to make a game. For an experienced assembly programmer, an Atari game can be banged out in a reasonable amount of time. A 16 bit game, on the other hand, requires a LOT more time to design and code. It's probably a lot more work than one person would reasonably expect to take on in their spare time.
