View Full Version : I still hate EB..maybe MORE now!

So I went into town the other day just for fun, and since I was nearby, I stopped by EB. They'd been holding a Xenosaga display standee for me for SIX months....for some reason it was in their display scheme still. I had my name on it since the day it came out. So I walk in on Saturday....lo and behold it's walking out the door! No phone call...NOTHING. The manager had changed over two weeks ago, and I said "I've had my name on that for 6 months!" The guy at the counter says "Well, just cause your name is on it doesn't mean we'll give it to you" and then laughs and ignores me. I walk out fuming, as you can imagine. Granted, it was a freebie, but it's the principle of the thing. I had planned to give them a chance again that day and buy Shining Soul, but that went right out the window.

So today, I get a call that the other standee I had on hold could be picked up (Tron 2.0). I go in, and ask bout the release date for Viewtiful Joe (since I have a preorder for it that I wasn't irate enough to cancel yet). It comes out tomorrow. That's all she says to me really....no chitchat or anything, which is fine. We leave the store and go to the new EB...I wanted to see what they had in, just for the hell of it. I get there and the guy is REALLY nice....very friendly and helpful....kinda made my day. So I ask him if they got any Viewtiful Joe promo stuff. He says "Oh, yeah, we got T-shirts and a framed cel for preorders!" I said "WHAT??" It seems that the store I preordered at failed to bother to tell me that there were any goodies at all. So I had him call the other store and ask if they had them for their preorders as well. He calls and asks...the other store is out of cels, but has ONE t-shirt left. Now, I preordered Viewtiful Joe in AUGUST and they didn't bother to hold the special preorder stuff for me? COME ON!!!! That's complete bullshit! Apparently, it's all just whoever happens to be there at the time...either that or the employees are swiping the preorder goodies. Nice way to reward the customer for preordering. So I re-preordered it at the new EB with the nice people and I got the LAST set of preorder giveaways. Still, very frustrating. I just don't understand it. Why do they keep dumping on me?

They are one in the same to me, but every, i mean EVERY gamestop i go to around here hords crap, keeps the good stuff, and themselves sell it on ebay. I can only guess it happens at every retail store. so oh well. My mother worked walmart after she retired, i would ask, hey those ps2s are commng out,get me 2 or 3. and that was that, the store got 30 in, 22 went to employees and 8 to the 60 something pre-orders they took.

EB does suck, thats why i buy at either Best Buy or Fryes. EB also doesnt have any SNES or anything pre N64 by me. Come on... even Gamestop has that.

On a totally unrelated note, Canada rules! I went to Vancouver for a vacation and everyone there was helpful and kind, and just all around good people. Plus i found it funny that their money has nicknames... such as loonies and toonies. EH! :)

Actually, the EBs here have everything from Atari to present..whatever gets brought in, they take.

Yeah, I find it strange that the preorder goodies (which are normally sent out in equal quantities to the number of preorders) would be mysteriously not there at all. By the way, that cel is number 112 of 1775....kind of a limited run...I'm wondering how many EBs got them at all...there had to be a lot of VJ preorders right?

We don't ahve any EB's anymore but we ahve tons of Gamestops. The new one taht just opened is cool. I am very good friends with the manager,a nd he gives me free promotionals. He usually says reserve something and he will give me something. But I ahev drove around teh back to the dumpster. They are very nice, and we usually chat

Your so lucky maxlords... ALL game stores around here (southern California) have no atari crap what so ever. The only 'old' stuff is NES, and usually all they have is Super Mario Bros. 3 for $5. Some day ill get a huge score at Gamestop... hopefully Stadium Events. :roll:

Too bad everything I ever see there is commons. I've yet to have seen a rare pre-PSX game at EB except for one complete Dragon Warrior 3 for $40. It's slim pickings, but at least they DO carry them, one of the ONLY reasons I still wander in there after all the problems I've had.

You still have it better than me... I NEVER ever see and box or manuals with any NES games. I only saw 1 manual for Mario/duck hunt, and that was 1 time. I wish we had atari games over here :( ... but at least there is ebay.

All I ever see at the local Babbage's are 1998 era PC games. And then very few of them.

odd.......my gamestop carries nothing but N64-current and the EB carries just about everything.......even some complete NES games....decent ones too.....not incredibly common. also.......i realize used stuff is where they fund the store......but why the markup....it's crazy. they want twice what you pay on the net for everything. all the gamestop's around here shipped their NES games "somewhere"......gee i wonder why they couldn't sell them when they wanted $8 a game for common junk and $15 for anything you wouldn't see at a garage sale and if there's a demand for it.....why not $25, idiots i tell you!!

yeah the people at the eb near me do the same shit and tell me they have no promos. Now gamestop on the otherhand if they have old promo stuff for a game that has already been released they will give it to me for free or if I buy somthing ,it just depends who is working

I preordered Viewtiful Joe at Gamestop, and I got a really cool Red Viewtiful Joe BobbleHead! I can't wait to go pick it up on my lunch break today!

I'm surprised they give stuff away. We're told that any and all non-preorder promo merchandise(standees, signs, posters) must be destroyed or taken by the employees.

Resale of any promo goods, pre-order goodies, or any other "cool" stuff is grounds for immediate termination. :o

Resale is grounds for termination, but giving away isn't. I was told yesterday that EB has just instituted a new policy that they can't give away standees anymore, and the reasoning is because "they might be sold on eBay". I guess they had a problem with Enter the Matrix standees of all things....how sad is that?

However, there are still ways around that. Still, it's kinda silly that they make all this cool promo stuff that's designated to ONLY be thrown away. I don't understand it. And it depends on who you know too of course. What the game companies need to start doing is SELLING this promo stuff themselves, as I'm sure people would buy it! I'd buy some of the promo stuff, guaranteed.

A Japanese Super Metroid standee would kick ass (do they even have those? Lol)
