EDIT 10/26: It's come and gone! If you're just looking for the link to the pictures, here it is: http://www.digitpress.com/images/njclassic27/

27 sounds about right, doesn't it? Numbers confuse me. Especially when they have x's and o's in them.

You know, it's really been a LONG TIME. The last official gathering was on March 1st, though there have been a few smaller group gatherings since then. The more the merrier this time, and I fully expect EVERYONE to be here. NO excuses. NO "I'm getting married that day". NO "I have no transportation". NO "I only have 2 weeks to live and won't be alive then". Ya hear me?

This one's for all the marbles. Gaming up the ying yang and lots of trading. There may or may not be exotic dancers too. So you better just show up.

http://www.digitpress.com/images/njclassic/tn_njxxvi_028_jpg.jpg http://www.digitpress.com/images/njclassic/tn_njxxvi_022_jpg.jpg http://www.digitpress.com/images/njclassic/tn_njxxvi_025_jpg.jpg

If you've been to an NJ Classic in the past, you know what it's about. Grueling 4-player competition, intense trade sessions, and spilling beer on my game consoles. You've got at least three game stations active at any time, thousands of games to choose from, and the company of others who are similarly deranged or are just really into video games - it's not up to me to judge who is which.

You're probably wondering "when is this incredible event?"

Well cool down, chum. I'm gettin' to it.

It's SATURDAY, OCTOBER 25th, from 3pm until "whenever".
It's at Digital Press HQ (directions attached)
It's FREE!
Bring your "trade bait" or bring stuff to show off.
Most importantly, bring YOURSELF.

Please RSVP by Friday, October 17th. See you then!

I've been waiting for another get together since I was unable to come to the last one. I'm definitely gonna come this time...that is if I don't get lost with my horrible navigational skills. :)

Dammit. It's being held the day after I get home from surgery. I think I have a valid excuse, but it's *yet another* DP gathering I'm gonna miss for one damn reason or another.

I suck. :(

AAArrrgghhh!!!!! Damn Joe, when it comes to picking dates, you've really got a knack!

I'll be in St. Louis, MO, that day, in a penguin suit, attending my cousin's wedding.

In order to ensure everybody has the full experience though (wouldn't want the uninitiated to miss out on my Steve-ness just because I'm absent), I feel somebody should be appointed to carry out my duties - these involve arriving after 6pm, scrounging what's left from the crumbs, talking at length about something nobody cares about (for tips, study Cliff Claven on some borrowed Cheers DVDs), eating AT LEAST 5 pieces of Domino's Pizza, constantly return to the chip bowls, drinking only one or two beers amongst many Cokes, and playing Space Dungeon, Crazy Taxi, and Bump N' Jump. The designated NoahsMyBro-of-the-Night must also express a preference for cartridge based systems, insist that until the Dreamcast, the 5200 was the best videogame console ever, and receive a call from the wife around 9pm asking what time he will return home.

With those tips to make the night a richer and more complete experience, I'm sure everything will go just swimmingly.

Have fun guys, I wish I could be there,
Steve

well at least its not on Nov.2nd, dont want to have to fight over the conn. gamers. did i mention that we're giving away free beer to anyone who shows up in costume? someday we need to find a suitable host or location between NE and the NYC area and have a monster meet.

Bring your TRADES, people! I've travelled light for the last few events as to avoid awkward trips up and down the basement stairs...this time I'm really bringing it; new trades, old junk no one took me up on before, controllers, consoles, carts, discs, books, boxes...and a nice stack of cash for those salesman types (*cough*Hardie*hiccup***)

i wouldnt be past trading/selling an adventurevision w/ games if the deal was right -

You guys make it down rarely; I'd be disappointed if you went and I missed you guys. So I'm kind-a glad you may miss it - that increases the chances you'll be there next time!

OTOH, it might be better that you DO go, as it seems Kaine might need a ride this time. :D

AND, funny thing, in my first reply here yesterday morning, I said:

Damn Joe, when it comes to picking dates, you've really got a knack!

Strangely enough, when I arrived home last night some show was on Comcast Channel 8 I'd never seen before. I think it was called Rock'N'Roll Funhouse, and of all things, The Knack was performing on stage. I watched it from about 7:15 until 8pm when it ended. It got me in the mood, so today I brought in My Sharona to jam to while working.

The date is set - we've already got plans for Halloween weekend. This is the "NJ Classic" season though, we have these every other month between fall and spring so there's sure to be another one soon.

Marty, if you can go to only two events this year, and since I know that CGE has to be one of them, I certainly WOULDN'T choose this as the other. It's fun and there are good trades and gaming but it's definitely an OLD crowd.

If your folks ever want to give you a lift here just to check things out on some random weekend, however, you're certainly welcome to check out the digs. I think half the fun for "first timers" is poking around the collection.

Crap crap crap! I was planning on going before yesterday, when I found out about a Bring Our Troops Home rally in D.C. that my college is running busses to. I'd really rather talk games at Joe's on the 25th but I've been slacking in my photography class lately and need to get some killer shots and perhaps a news story or two. pour out a 40oz for me guys, till next meet...

Okay, Kaine, you have yourself a deal. If I can get Joe to schedule the next one of these on my off weekend, I GUARANTEE I'll pick you up and not drink so I can bring you home. Unless you want to stay the night and get a ride home in the morning. How does that sound?

Sounds good POG! Anyhow the only thing spossibly preventing me this time (and maybe till end of the year) is transportation and my possible EB job, or other job I may get for that matter.

LATE BREAKING NEWS

A forum member from out-of-state will be joining us. This person has asked to keep identity a secret, so you'll just have to be here to find out who it is. My only hint: this is a first-time NJ Classic attendee.

By the way, if you haven't RSVP'ed yet, please do. I'd like to have a head count going into the weekend.

This is gonna be a good time!

R E M I N D E R

It's TOMORROW!

If you haven't told me you're coming yet, please tell me right away. Tonight is the final run for the gathering tomorrow. We'll have a good mix of forum and non-forum members, a surprise guest, TONS of trading (I predict more than ever before based on the e-mails I've gotten) and lots of four-player and MAME and Dreamcast head-to-head X-Arcade action. Looks to be truly a "classic" so if you're hedging, don't. Just go.

I'm introducing the "FREE PILE" at this gathering. I'm starting my spring cleaning a bit early and giving away tons of stuff. Just in the next mini-pile to be transported to the main pile: a working TRS CoCo II, about two dozen Brazilian Atari 2600 carts of not-so-great condition, a Logitec Game Cam (webcam), and a boxed VIC-20. For those of you who are coming - bring a big shopping bag!

Let us all game on.

Here is the news snippet and picture gallery from last night's event. I had a BLAST! Thanks to everyone who made it. It took me hours just to organize all of the goodies I traded with you last night!

NJ Classic XXVII: This home-grown local gathering of gamers continues as the twenty seventh edition of the event closes on an unsuspecting NJ dawn. As always, the highlights of this particular event are blockbuster trades, intense 4-player gaming, pizza and beer. Lots of terrific trade items changed hands and my stomach still hurts from laughing so hard all night. Sure, this isn't "game news" to most but I truly encourage everyone to do these kinds of things whenever they can. Gamers need to bond. Check out the captioned photo gallery HERE (http://www.digitpress.com/images/njclassic27/).

I'd just like to thank all 526 people I traded with/bought from/sold to on Saturday.

Extra special thanks to Superstonic for the Defender marquee! I finally brought something home my wife could actually appreciate. She even asked if I wanted her to get it framed for me.

Response: "Framed! Great idea! I know the perfect frame for it... A DEFENDER MACHINE"

Also thanks to Greg for laughing at every game-related joke made, no matter how obscure.
