If only the ColecoVision versions of the last two weren't so poorly done...

Not me! I just finished playing the Vectrex a couple of minutes ago! I love the Vector games. They're so awesome, and something that just doesn't work as well on emulation..but they'll never make a comeback now. I'm still waiting for a Vectrex version of Space Fury.

Oh yes I definitely miss Vector games :) Sure you can play them in Mame.. but it's obviously NEVER going to be the same. Just look at a simple vector game like Asteroids. You can never get the ultra bright "shots" on Mame (or any regular monitor). Since of course doing a little trick like maxing out the brightness and intesity of a SINGLE PIXEL is only possible on a true vector monitor. It's the little things that matter :P
Too bad vector games and their monitors are so hard to maintain these days... So when you actually find a real working cab, enjoy it :P

You seem to have omitted Major Havoc from your list of KLOV URLs. For this, I can not forgive you.

i miss the color vector games most of all, one time todd and i paid a visit to an arcade collector around here. this guy had made a point of collecting and lovingly restoring the entire atari vector game line. when he fired them all up in the dimmly lit game room it was an awesome sight to behold. my holy grail for arcade machines would be that sweet tempest cocktail he had.

No Tac-Scan?!? :)

To say nothing of the audio. My desktop speakers are nice, but they definately don't have the same sound as I got sitting in the Star Wars cockpit game. ... or standing in front of a Tac-Scan or Space Fury cabinet.

Yep, that Star Wars game is definitely my favorite arcade game of all time. Easily. Thank GOD for the Vectrex.

Well...there is Rez..doesn't that count? :D Or Cosmic Smash? They're almost like modernized vector games.

I have no Vectrex. I do miss the vector games. Vector games were so exciting back in the 80's! I guess all 3D games these days are "vector games" but with textures and lighting applied.
I've tried over the past year or two to come up with a vector graphics kind of game as a 5200 homebrew. The algorithms have pretty much eluded me though, it'll take a lot more thought to make fast & impressive Vector-styled visuals on 5200. Maybe the solution is to not program a vector drawing routine, but to totally fake it with pre-drawn images? My results have been underwhelming so far. :(
Here is a question -- what are the best classic console ports of vector games?
For example, Asteroids 2600 may be fun, but Atari threw out the Vector look completely so this game is a bad example. Where there any games that tried to mimic the vector look? I'm talking 2600/5200/CV/INTV era.

Funny you should ask that. ColecoVision had several ports of vector games, but they never even tried for a vector look, even though several elements from "Omega Race" illustrated that it could've done a pretty decent imitation. The results were less than successful.
Probably pre-drawing is your best bet; it works pretty well on a Vic-20, so it should work on most consoles.

Lucky enough here to 2 glorious vectors in my basement. Space Duel and a cabaret Battlezone. They really look cool when all of the lights are turned off. 8-) Add the Atari neon sign I have and all is very cool. The basement also houses my Crazy Climber coctail. I won't even tell you what's in the garage.
Cheers.
Oh yeah, the Vectrex is also in the basement. Shoot the retro musueum is in the basment. :rocker:

I thought the Star Wars Arcade game port on the Colecovision was done really well....aside from the abysmal controll.

I remember reaching the vector boss in Radiant Silvergun and actually standing up and cheering.
I predict a comeback for this technology, but I'm not sure when it will happen, or what form it will take. It's just too cool-looking to stay dead.
(but, uhhh....you would think it would've happened by now...)
