Last night, I decided to head to one of my local GameStops to see what i could pick up at the 2-1 sale. that yielded absolutely nothing, but they did have used dreamcasts for only $29, and they came with a free new VMU - a much better deal than anywhere else in town. the guy working there knew me from before, and asked why i hadn't been around lately. i answered honestly, telling him that another local place had better prices. he and the other cashier then began to explain why this other place was crappy and everything from there was gross and broken. i didn't bother to argue, because i was just happy i was getting a nice deal. when i got home, i looked at the DC i had bought. YUCK. it looked like it had been washed in bong water and buried for 200 years. LOL it had sawdust (?) and a sticky film all over it This reminded me exactly why i hate gamestop. alas, burning off about $20 of 409 and q-tips got it clean... it's now at 'slovenly' level... Fun. Anybody else have 'fun' with gamestop? :D

I work at a GameStop and we try to clean stuff before we sell it. If it needs cleaning that is.

Nah, not cranky, just tired of hearing this over and over and over and over.
There's like at least one topic every week regarding stuff like this.
I work at a GameStop as well, and we try to clean stuff before we sell it. If it needs cleaning that is. If it's too nasty then we don't take it.
Nothing personal here, just had to get that out.

Ok, heres mine. I went to gamestop an Tuesday cause of the buy 2 get 1 free deal.
So, I pick out a bunch of games, mostly N64 and playstation.
I had 72 games AND the assistant manager refused to sell them to me because all those can't be for personal use. What? so I walked out with no games cause I wanted to buy too many.
NOW, explain that to me.
SIDENOTE: if you buy more than 50 items you freeze up the Gamestop computers....I did it twice.

Contact Gamestop and have that Ass. Manager Fired. He'd be ridiculous for turning down sales like that. I'd understand if you bought 72 of the SAME item, but I doubt that was the case... Plus his Item per transaction would make him look like a sales God. What the F was he thinking!?!?
We had this guy Larry come in Every day a new GBC/PS1/DC game was released and would buy 3-7 copies of each title, after carefully inspecting each one for flaws, then would open one copy and throw the rest of them in a storage for "collecting" he was legit too, I saw pictures. (sounds like hoarding to me) We had to get approval from our DM, and he said it was fine as long as Larry pre-ordered all the titles he wanted. On a side Note, Larry is an executive for a pharmacutical company here in Delaware. he makes a boat load of cash. His wife left him because she made him choose video games or her. Guess what he chose..... x_x

Just because you work at Gamestop doesn't mean that other locations aren't shitholes. I've bought used stuff at Gamestop/EB that looked like they unleashed a rabid wombat covered in ketchup on it, but apparently they still felt it was quality enough to be sold at the same price as a normal condition one. And for the record, local stores CAN be nicer than corporate ones, I have proof in my hometown. If you bring in something dirty there they charge you extra (lessen the credit) for a cleaning fee. I've hardly ever seen something in there that was in a condition less than what I would find acceptable for my own collection. Of course they're not all bad, and the guys in Gamestop(s) around me are pretty friendly folk, but crappy stores will exist in any chain.

The 2 other employees were the ones helping me , nice guys. I was talking to them for like an hour.
I did have like 5 copies of WCW/NWO wrestling....but they were $.99 , so for $2 I got 3 games, HOW CAN YOU PASS THAT UP??
the assistant manager only came out afte I asked them if they had any sealed copies of Perfect Dark in the back and one of the guys went to check. (just so you know our local gamestops have been getting new copies with almost every order and have been selling them for $5, but they are opened and I wanted a couple of sealed ones.
Then the assistant manager comes out and say's I can't buy anything. I left cause , " ok, I won't spend $500 here today, I'll go hit the other used stores. " then he's like" well ok you can buy the stuff, but you can't ever sell it or tradde it and I won't give you the buy 2 get 1 free deal.
I have no idea what he was thinking.
Hey, can I get some opinions from gamestop employees and managers?

Thats bullshit...if you walked into my store asking for all of that used stuff I would have died from the excitement. Gamestop makes the bulk of their money on used merchandise so you'd be crazy to pass up a sale like that. Also if I sold that much used stuff in a couple months I would be a hero to my superiors and probably get some free games for it. :D I couldn't imagine doing all that in a day. That guy's an idiot.
Dave, next time you want to buy that much stuff, come on over to NJ and I'll hook you up. ;)

*sigh* it's unfortunate that it happened. Technically, we aren't supposed to sell more than two copies of any given game (the NWO's you mentioned and the perfect darks) If you want more than one, you have to go through corporate, this is to prevent resalers shopping getting the good deals, and turning around and getting more $$$. Now, if they were $500 worth of individual games, he shouldn't have any problem selling them to you. WITH the B2G1F and including a sub in that to save you even more money. Dumbass.
I do urge you though, to call the corporate office (I don't know the number off hand, but call any GS) Report them to HQ along with the store number and a call to the DM wouldn't hurt.
PS I have been known to give a system a good 1/2 an hour cleaning before I wrap it up to resell.

the pikachu 64 i'm selling on ebay.........was covered in baby food. crusted on the console. and the controller cord was chewed up. so i took it back and he refused to give me my money back. he said i could switch it for a regular black N64.......so screw gamestop. if it's not an unbelievably good deal then i'm not buying it. he said i couldn't have my money back because i had already removed the shrinkwrap. what a big fat LOAD........you can't just reshrink it with the machine in the back? so yes......there needs to be atleast one topic every week about how everybody hates gamestop, eb....etc...etc. because it just shows how much hatred there is for the companies. and if you don't want to read it then don't click on the thread? i enjoy them......... :D

Get Corporate's number, call them with the store location and the position of the Asst. Manager. He's an ass and deserves to be fired.
I work as a SGA (3rd key) at mine and I'd never turn you down. NO ONE would turn you down, you're buying 75 or so different items, christ I'd be PLEASED AS PUNCH if you came to my store with that order. want buy 2 get 1? Yours, with the used discount on top? Fine!
that guy's an idiot and a dick and deserves to get canned, which he can get shot down for if you report him. You aren't supposed to turn down sales like that.

If Achika won't report me, I will add that we almost never take even scuzzy looking systems. And don't get me started on PS2s. We refuse many systems mainly because
1) we really don't have the room for any more pre-current gen systems
and
2) a lot of the time, they're from people we know are theives.
but as for refusing -sales-... never.

LOL Don't worry, if someone with an attitude comes in (generally these have been regular customers with piss poor attitudes) and makes a comment to someone else (loud enough so they know I hear) about GS taking anything back, when I get to the system I pull up a bottle of foam cleaner and say they have the option of cleaning it now, or bringing it back later, cleaned Hey, like it says on the sign, we reserve the right to refuse any trade in for any reason I think it's just refusing to sell things that's a bit off.

i think on a lot of grounds, that is illegal. if you refuse a sale to one person for any reason. it's like discrimation......if they have bubble bath babes out in the NES games for $52.99, and you take it to the register. by law they must sell it to you for $52.99.......you can take that as far as buying things at stores.....or fast food. when the sign says .99 cent hamburgers. go in and tell them you want 100 hamburgers and when they tell you it's $100......tell them .99 cents time 100 burgers is 99cents.......and you will take them to court for false advertisement if they don't. don't know what you will rummage up but find a good use for the burgers first. take them to the ghetto and hand them out or something.........

Thanks for the advice guys and ladies. Really I just blew it offand figures their loss. But the more I think how wrong this guy really was. and the other employee's really didn't care and actually were going to split the order in 2 so they each get half credit.
But the thing is, yes I did have some multiple N64 carts, but I also had a bunch of different titles. I had strat guides, N64, SNES, NES, PS2, PSX, Gamecube, and even an X-Box game.
I also bought about 25 games from this store back in June, I think, when they had their last 2for1 sale.
Now we also have 2 stores in Appelton about 45 minutes away, and last time I was there I bought 52 games and the manager was there. I also bought multiple copies of a bunch of games and he had no problem what-so-ever. (thats when we found out the PC's freeze up at 50 items)
He was excited and a cool guy, I got a bunch of promo posters and stuff, PLUS I told him I collected NES so he gave me a stack of books and about 20 NES Mario/DH games for free.
I went to the other appelton store right after and bought 75 games from them and they were all cheap N64 titles, many dupes and that manager I knew becasue He used to come into the store I managed and buy/trade stuff in all the time. HE gave me a bunch of promo shirts and demo disks there too.
So you see Gamestop has been good to me in the past, its just this guy really wasted my time and wasn't very nice.
Also if anyone has the phone number handy, I'd really appreciate a pm, otr else, I'll look it up or get it from the uys I know in appelton.
So, who do I talk to about getting a couple of boxes of sealed Perfect Darks for $5?? :-P

Dude, you can go to Gamecrazy (the gamestores in Hollywood videos) and buy Dreamcasts for $25 !!! I just bought one the other day. I guess my point is that Gamestop does not have the best deals in town!! Go to Gamecrazy--they guarantee it for 90 days also.

off topic somewhat, but i think everybody should buy a dreamcast. one of the greatest systems ever......it can easily be replaced with a newer system and replaces it greatly(xbox)........but when you look at price comparison LOL
plus, the DC is read to go, xbox's require alot of parts to get an equal replacement........so for the cheaper gamer......dc is what you need :-P

Good Point!! I just picked up a complete system at a garage sale for $15. It had 6 games, 2 controllers and 3 vmu's. This is my 3rd system. How could I pass it up.
Over the past 6 months I have compiled a collection of over 60 titles. Mostly new from clearances, but many from GS/EB for cheap. I would say 90% cost me under $10 and many $5 or less.
SO if you don't have a dreamcast yet, get the hell out there and get one. $25-$30 for a system that is comparable to a PS2. How could you pass that up!! They are not going to get any cheaper than they are now. In fact , if I had to speculate, I would say the price will start to rise on the system in the next year or two.

I say screw it, there're so many cool sellers on eBay that I simply give Gamestop a miss, the worst part about Gamestop is the people working there (I'm not saying all of them are like that), bunch of video game geeks/freaks who think of nothing but video games all their lives and they actually think it's cool, they're also full of themselves with their opinions, I'd want to shove the games in their @$%.
I had one Gamestop store nearby my area where the manager and the staff are cool though (one DP member works at that store) but it was originally a Funcoland store. Go figure.

the gamestops i go to.....the workers are all far from gamers in my opinion, probably crackheads for all i know. and if one does appear to be a gamer, they make some stupid comment that leads me to believe they are strictly a sports gamer and know absolutely nothing about gaming and the gaming community. they should make employees take gaming quizes before they hire them.
on the other hand, in the toys r us i stop at frequently......it seems like when i ask an employee about dvd's......they either know their shit or they ask a co-worker to step in.....same with games. and toys r us has been having some really decent deals.....on some things if you watch......just my 2 cents

My local Software Etc. also wants $16.99 for a copy of Tetris for the GB in lousy condition, no manual, no box, with a huge sticker ripped off of it leaving a giant shredded chunk of paper glued to it.
They also want $50 for a NES with no new 72-pin connector, never cleaned, even the outside is dirty, the casing piss-yellow from sun exposure (or piss). I asked a rep why it cost so much, he said, "A lot of people don't have them and want them." Of course, he couldn't give me a good answer to why no one was buying theirs, and why I was able to get a NES with a new 72-pin connector for under $40 on EBay. None of the reps even knew what the connector was, one asked me for an in-depth explanation of why they degrade over time, and gave me a look the whole time like I was explaining the meaning of life.
