Umm... you know, I'm not really sure that it is the 29th... I could be wrong, but I think that was the date I heard was the 22nd of October. I'll do a bit of research. Hold on...
And here's the results. We were both wrong. It's the 28th of October. Dammit. Oh, well. I still can't wait for it, regardless. Now I have to wait for it longer. Dammit x2. :frustrated:

Allow me to lower your expectations -- it's a better effort than Contra: Shattered Soldier, but it's nowhere near great. Not enough platforming, not enough secrets, too much combat. Superb music, tho.

Is that the US date or the JPN date?
Saw this at the TGS... the line was too long to play, but it looked good.

Dude, it's a Castlevania game -- it may not be great, but it's GOING to have AWSOME music! :D

...but what about the N64 games? I don't recall them having much music at all.

What now?
From the original:
Tower of Science = good, one of my personal favorites
Tower of Sorcery = great
From Legacy of Darkness:
Random classic intro/tension music was pretty good. Personal favorite so far would be this game's mix of The Old Sinking Sanctuary...awesome; best version of this music found anywhere.

Buddy boy, this ain't the KCEK team. The music WILL kick ass! :band:

I for one liked the "easy listening" remix of Invisible Sorrow quite a bit.
For that "This ain't KCEK" comment, I can say the following:
The Sinking Old Sanctuary was a Ichiru Yamane song in the first place. Granted the majority of music in the games are odd incidental music, but they've peppered the soundtracks with enough good remixes and allusions to older songs to keep a hardcore CV music fan happy. The direction the music took for that title was supposed to be more dramatic--frankly, considering the crappiness of the N64's PCM MIDI, I think they did very well. Am I the only one who remembers how the vampire fight at the entrance to the sewers is preluded by a snippet of Bloody Tears?
The N64 Castlevania was not the first game in the series that actually used music to create dramatic tension, but it was very good for a non-CD title. However good the compositions may be, their impact is dulled when they're repeated ad infinitum (nauseum; enough to make one nauseous).
I'm not the only person who feels this way, though I feel that myself (and the other mod of the CV Dungeon) are about the only people of any rank whatsoever in the VG world who like the music (that said, Jorge is a pretty good musician himself, and is quite well acquainted with the music as he's been creating MIDI versions of songs from the series right up to AoS).

Update for the poor suckers that only have a JPN PS2 console -- release date is 11/27.... it ain't cheap either. Suggested retail is 8800 yen as well. WTF?
EDIT:
That's the LE that's 8800 yen. Comes w/ CD, prints, poster, and other crap -- sold out already though. :(

Wierd...look how far "added value" has come since the old days. Akumajo Dracula on the Super Famicom was 8,800 yen as well; the x68K version was 9,800 yen in 1993 whereas Rondo was 7,800. Prices seem to have stayed the same but the amount of stuff you can get for that little extra has increased dramatically. I bet profits are down (yes, aware of inflation).

You know, the music to the N64 games just never stood out in my head. Don't several of the levels in both games not have any music at all?

N64 Castlevania was cool. I j ust don't get people who rip on it all the time.
Personally though, I don't like the turn for "adventure/rpg" Castlevania made with SOTN. Give me Bloodlines, and I'll show you an awesome castlevania game.

As with most other rules that other cultures strictly adhere to, Japan somehow seems to break them. In this case, Japan's economy deflates... rather rapidly actually. Rent now compared to when I moved here almost 6 years ago is ridiculously cheap, and move-in costs are half of what they used to be.
There were a lot of 9800 yen games back then, and even 12,000 yen games, but that was still post-bubble. The highest I've seen a non-LE game was FFX and the like, at 7800 yen. You also get 'points' now when you buy stuff.

Is'nt there susposed to be a Limited Edition in the States as well, with a soundtrack CD and other goodies?

Yes. Only at certain stores, though, when you preorder. I think EB is one.

Really, I might have to pick that up just for the soundtrack.
Although I'm more looking forward to Crimson Skies for the Xbocks on the 22nd. Twisted Metal in the skies with online play seems like it's gonna kick ass. At least I hope it does.
Oh, and I think it would take a lot for this game to be a better effort than Shattered Soldier. That was a fantastic and tough game, and something I did not expect to see on the PS2.

Yeah, I enjoyed Contra: Shattered Soilder a LOT also. Great game, very much like the old school ones. INSANE difficulty, though. First game in five years that caused me to hurl my controler to the floor and swear like a sailor. :)
I was'nt planning on getting Castlevania, but I'll defentily rent it.

See....that makes it sound more like a traditional Castlevania....isn't that a good thing, Z? Personally, I hate the direction the CV series has taken since SOTN! Wait.....if there's not much platforming....maybe that WOULDN'T be so good..... :(

I guess we'll all know on the 22nd! Personally, I'd like to see the series return to its roots. Secrets are nice, but it shouldn't have to have an assload of them. Lots of combat = good. Not so much platforming... not so good.
As long as it isn't another Metroidvania, we should be fine. SHOULD be.
And no one answered my question yet. Weren't there several parts of both N64 games that lacked music entirely?

Yeah I seem to recall the soundtrack on CV64 being pretty bare-bones.

Ah, great minds think alike. Legacy of Darkness was a phenomenal platformer, and the music was very impressive, always setting the right mood. Bloodlines however, is still my favorite in the series. Nothing beats Eric Lecarde's lance...
As for the RPG/Metroid-style gameplay of the recent games, it is starting to grow old, and I'm glad Lament of Innocence is going back to its straight platforming roots. Much like the new Contra on PS2, I think this new CV game is going to be fantastic and to the franchise justice. I'll be all over it
Speaking of the 22nd, there are a ton great games coming out that day:
-Castlevania: Lament of Innocence
-Time Crisis 3 : (light gun games: the last of a dying breed)
-Crimson Skies (I'll be all over this one too)
-New TMNT game (looks very promising)

What I'd like to see is a Castlevania art book featuring art from the different Castlevanias ever since that great character designer took over (I forgot her name, but she's the one who draws those androgynous-looking characters).
The ultimate Castlevania gift set: the game plus the soundtrack and an art book!!!
