It can play a bunch of Java-based Nokia phone games(Metal Slug is one). If you count those, there's a lot.

You mean how many games released before its death?
Well, I'll say barely over 30. And IF it wasn't being insanely mass produced, I'd say that it would go the way of the Lynx. Crappy specs, crappy games, mega crappy screen, ultra crappy cellphone.. Who came up with this anyway.

Its a good idea on paper.
A neat little versatile high tech toy that does everything.
I think its a transitional piece of technology that will fail but will pave the way for superior yet similar products to be released.

I saw a report on cnn (that technology show with the 2 cool asian hosts) and they had a "technology analyst" talking about the n-gage. He said something along the same line. He pretty much said that the n-gage would fail, but it would pave the way for the next generation of "n-gages", especially since nokia will have learned some valuable lessons from their first attempt (i.e dont model technology on food).
Personally, i think it will have more games than the lynx, but less than the game-gear, gameboy, etc. If nokia does some sort of re-design (a la gba SP) that changes the focus towards games more, then it will do better.
Thats just how i see it, through my non-handheld owning eyes :)

no, sorry, no chance for re-design. they're already charging an arm and a leg for this thing. they've scared away enough people already, that to even re-design it without building a hole large enough to fit the entire company in would be hard to do. IMHO, they can re-design it but they need something to kick this thing into gear before they do that. the GBA was a really hot item when they re-designed it, they had good sales to float their new project. the first system has to be a success before they can make a second.......as i see it. and i might say, the games look like they could be fun and it looks like a very versatile machine......yet, $300......and it's so damn ugly :puke:

I guess it might depend on just how badly it fails. If it's an utter bomb, then other companies might be put off the idea of such a mullti-function device. Personally, I'm happy with phones, MP3 players and consoles kept separate, thank you.

i will agree with that but one day, given the right compilation of functions in the right way. it will explode and life will continue from there. it is a great idea but it needs just that one right idea.

Exactly thirty-six games. I don't know how I came up with that number, but yeah... it's gonna have a library of thirty-six official games.

I KNEW someone would compare this to the Lynx! Man, why don't you kick both Epyx and Atari in the gonads while their down. :(

The Atari Lynx must be the most underrated semi-handheld unit of all time. It had 16 player networking capability fourteen years ago! And while poor marketing and a selection of medi-ocre titles killed it off, it still had new games come out as late as last year! It shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as the N-gage.

I second that. If there is anything that the Lynx wasn't, that would be low quality. Games on it weren't all that great but the system is awesome.

I concur. Nokia is trying too hard to get everything in one, and those people who have one or more of those functions will most likely simply blow it off. Nokia should have done more homework on the subject.
The Helix on the other hand... I'm looking forward to that one...

I don't know if it'll even get over 15 myself. As I said on another thread...they have two EB Games stores in the local mall. They move a lot of merchandise in those stores. At 5 days after launch of the NGage the stores had only sold *2* Ngages between them. That's like one per store. If that's the rate at which these things are selling - or even if it's double or triple that and is at 2-3 units per store - there won't be that many of these things out there and I would assume that Nokia is going to cut their losses. I seriously doubt that they are going to pull a Microsoft and sell the system at a loss - they do not have a strong software base from which they can profit after losing it on the hardware.

Whoa, hold on there. My post was badly written. I didn't mean the Lynx sucked - I LOVED mine back when I had one (actually I had 2) and I really want another. I probably wasted 30 hours of my life just playing California Games. Crystal Mines... don't even go there. ;) What I was trying to say is that the NGage will end up being blown out in clearance bins like the Lynx. I think there is no comparison between the Lynx's gaming capabilities and the NGage's. So Lynx = good. By the way, TI graphic calc cables work for connecting Lynx's. (Linxii?) :D Sorry about the misunderstanding... no way was I comparing the lynx to that stupid ass toy. ;)
