i have a Hong kong version Nes and i was wondering why the screen keeps blinking when i put in a European or American Cartridge in?

I don't know if HK NES's are PAL or NTSC, but ONE of those regions carts SHOULD work just fine. Maybe a bad connector?

like the game loads and it flashes. It shows the menu, then it goes black, then it shows the menu, then it goes black, and on and on.
The game works thou but its like its reseting itself

Sounds like a bad connector. Try cleaning your cart contacts. If you don't have the tool to open the cart, try wiggling the cart when it is locked into place, then reset the system. This usually works for me no matter how bad the connector is. These suggestions will only work if the hong kong version is basically buit the same as a US NES. Good Luck!!

if you dont have any Nintendo Bits you can manufacture your own one time (or more times) bit using a plastic pen.

heat it and push on screw once it gets cold and is solid again youve got yourself a nintendo bit pen :D

Back to the original question...

I think he may be dealing with a situation where the lockout chip needs to be disabled. If the game is starting up, but it's cycling on and off, over and over, I seem to remember that this is being caused by the territorial lockout chip. If he's seeing the title screen clearly for a split second, the cart connector is clean and doing its job just fine.

I can't remember with 100% certainty, but I think you'll need to cut off pin #4 on the NES's lockout chip. I did this on several USA systems, and it is a fairly simple process if you have the right tools.

Does anyone think I'm on the right track, here?

Yes, that sounds correct to me.

Also, if you have a desoldering iron, you could remove the chip, bend pin 4 up and away from the rest of the pins so that it won't contact the board, and reinstall the chip. Make sure you note the orientation of the chip before removal, too. Don't want to put it back in there backwards!

i think there are spray painted ic's on the pcb to avoid confusion on how to mount them if removed.
