If it's help you're a lookin' for, you'll probably get all kinds of it on over at our Emulation forum. And a-wayyyy we go!

Tee hee. I forgot there was a forum specifically for emulators. Thanks, fan of Rush and Futurama. :embarrassed:
Anyhoo, let's get serious. This error occurs from time to time, but it usually only did that on Bally Midway games. Now nothing works! It's completely random, so I have trouble deciding on a cause of its troubles. Though, if I had to take a guess, it would have to do with a display error. Anyone have any suggestions?

That message sounds like it's coming from your monitor directly, not from Mame. Try setting your refresh option to "auto" in Mame.

Thanks for the idea, but where do you go in MAME to do that? Oh, and if it helps, I use MAME32.

In Mame32:
Options->Default Game options
Tab to "Advanced" and set the size, resolution and depth all to "auto".
Also, UNCHECK "match game refesh rate" if that is checked off as well.

I hate to tell you this, but it's already like that. And it's still not working. Thanks anyway. :)

Hmm...if the above optuions didn't work for you try messing with the refresh. Try forcing it to 60 perhaps in that drop down menu. What is basically happening is that your monitor is not capable of displaying the refresh rate(s) Mame is trying to output.

No go. This could take all night... -_-

I would imagine with a default config it would work fine, unless you are trying to run on some odd or ancient hardware. Try command line mame and see if you can run a game with it. Alternately, try deleting all of the ini and cfg files for Mame32 and the games. Maybe a bad config file somewhere is doing it. What version of Mame32 are you running BTW?

The latest one, 0.75. And I'm not going to the command line version. I'm a total retard when it comes to anything like DOS. Boil some coffee, buddy... it's gonna be a looooong night. 8-)

And my MAME and its roms are still busted! :angry:

Your best bet is to re-download Mame32, unzip it into a brand new directory, and point it to your roms. If it worked before then slowly stopped working, either cfg or ini files were changed. Also, go to run and type "regedit". Do a find in regedit for "freeware". When the folder appears hit the plus sign and see if there is a registry entry for "mame32". If so, right click on it and delete it as well. Mame32 used to use registry entries for settings, but they did away with it in recent versions. I doubt it's your problem but it doesn't hurt to remove the unneeded registry entry anyway.

It works now! I did absolutely nothing since last night, and now, it's working! I guess it was just a random, inexplicable error. I hate those. But thanks for everyone's help, especially zektor, who really knows a lot about this stuff. I'll let y'all know if MAMEcrash occurs again. Goodnight everybody! :D

Bible? Yeah, I suppose. I've been playing with the emulator since early 97', so I guess I have some experience with it :) I have seen it grow into such a big thing, and still I can't get enough!
