I have never heard of such a thing nor any reason given why it is different. Smells like a scam to me.

There is probably some french on it. That would be the only dif.

I have one of those and it has a power adapter plug on the side of it. I have never seen an American version....does it have the plug too?

The US versions didn't come with the PSU AFAIK. You had to buy the Coleco Perma power battery packs seperately.
