Sadly, the boy from the TurboGrafx-16 box was often beaten up by the Rival Turf thugs.

Most of it was that in the 90's companies in the USA did everything and then some to make the games not appear :O like it was from Japan.
So alot of good anime style box art was scrapped for the crap they put on them.

Unfortunately, US box art is more mainstream. Saldly, the appreciation we as hardcore gamers have at this site is not NECessarily what the standard public likes to look at. Yes it looks like crap, but its crap that the US public can relate with. Yes I love the artwork overseas, and hopefully in the next 50 years it will change!

So alot of good anime style box art was scrapped for the crap they put on them.
Nothing compares to Mega Man (nes) and Bomberman (tg16). These two are singlehandedly the Dynamic Duo of hideous box design. NOTHING, no matter how awful, comes close. And out of the pair, i think that Bomberman is the most vision-impairing. The guy in the Bomber suit looks like what would happen if the Michelin tire guy was used as a basis for a radiation suit. Scary.

One thing that makes gamers so crazy about Neo-Geo, besides the games themselves, is the artwork of the Japanese game covers, no other companies pay so much attention to the details of the cover arts like SNK Playmore.

The box art for "Fantasy Zone" for the TG16 is just rediculous. It was obviously drawn up by some guy who saw a quick snapshot and never really played the game.

If you want to see some sick cover art, let us not forget about the 3D0.....gosh some the covers are just plain horrible!
P.S. Mega Man is the worst cover art for a US game, followed closely by Strider.......or should I say "Goldielocks"????

Methinks you must have missed the horrifying "Rival Turf" box (featuring the dude from FYC and Marky Mark in "Thriller" jacket) shown above. LOL The NES Mega Man art = the Sistine Ceiling by comparison.

And does he know that he will get screwed out of his copy of Street Fighter II because NEC won't bring it to the states to save the system? Huh!? Does he know that!?!? :P
Thank goodness for Ebay! $15 and a week later I've finally got a copy of my very own. I still couldn't play it for another week because I need a duo to turbografix joystick convertor but it was still worth the wait.
