Here's the newly updated history.dat file for the latest mame:

Just unzip the dat to the directory with your Mame executable and you can read about the history on most of the games either in the Mame32 GUI or by hitting TAB while ingame and selecting "Game History". As far as I know the dat has not been updated since v0.68, so alot has been added.
Also, I found something that may help people cut down the large CHD filesize (hard disk image games like the Beatmania series):

You can use the SmallCHD program on them and it will remove duplicate bytes in the CHD, therefore saving some space. Considering these CHD's take over 1GB and up on your HD, this may be a solution to gain back some space. I already tested it and it works fine. The images work just the way they normally did, but are just a few hundred MB smaller. There is also a BigCHD program there, and this is to bring the CHD files back to their large state if you would want to.
