Ok, I hardly have an up to date PC, but I can run quite a bit of MAME emulated games with little to no problem. One thing has really been confusing the hell out of me though. I can run these recent Atlus/Cave shmups (Gwuange from 1999 being a good example) with very few frames missing and a little more slowdown than usual but still playable. However if I try to play Truxton (from, what, 1986?) it's missing so many frames, it's completely unplayable. Granted, I'd rather play Gwuange than Truxton, if I have to choose, but it baffles me why this is possible. :)

There are many factors, but the main thing is that it depends on the muscle required to emulate each individual game. In other words, it's sometimes tougher to convince your PC that it's a 1985 machine versus a 1999 machine, regardless of how complicated the game itself is. :)

There are many factors involved. If the game used a few processors for instance, and how well they are emulated in the mame code for one. Sooner or later they get faster...or maybe they don't and your computer does :)

Dont forget too that if your graphics card is low end and has bad 2d your games will suffer. You might consider upgrading you graphics sub system to handle it until you can upgrade the entire system.
