Will you just *try* to sell them or what? How long do they last anyway?

those who were wise will desolder the Eprom (or remove it from it's socket), find the backup rom dump they made of their proto, and re-burn the Eprom.

I will solemnly bury mine in the backyard while someone plays the tune from Trouble Shooter's first stage on a harmonica.

What do I need to have to dump my protos?

Obviously, an EEPROM reader, etc. But can someone please e-mail me some specifics, i.e. model or more detailed instructions? - larsoncc@fatmangames.com

That depends on the system(s). For the most part, there's a way to dump games for each system without desoldering, if you're okay with sending them out.

As far as specific EPROM readers, I don't know anything. But if you need any NES stuff backed up, I can do it.

If the chips are socketed, just pull them out of the socket and read them with an EPROM programmer... my favorite is the willem, www.willem.org . It is slower than some of the others, but it is relatively cheap, and has GREAT support for chips. Also, if you have problems, there is a forum to ask questions on, and usually someone can help you out.

If the chips aren't socketed, then you'd need a cart dumper to read it through the cart edge. There are a lot of people that would be willing to do that, but of course then you have to send it to them, and they get dumps of your proto, and some people don't like that. You could also make/buy a dumper if you wanted...
