Yeah, they were showing demos of this at CGE2K3 - was pretty damn cool. Can't wait to pick up a copy for the GC! 8-)

The most interesting thing I learned about Treasures at CGE '03 is that Midway didn't come up with the idea; it was approached by Digital Eclipse, which had put together a demo version of Treasures in its collective spare time. Scary that other developers have more reverence for Midway's classic properties than Midway itself.

I am pretty sure there will be unlockable games, sort of like "Activision Anthology" by beating certain high-scores and such. "Midway Arcade Treasures" will be awesome on all three systems and if you wanted all three systems have at least one Arcade stick. :D

They (as in Digital Eclipse) desperately need to make this for the Game Boy Advance, to undo the wrong that was Midway Arcade's Greatest Hits.

Out of the list, those two and Rampart are the only games I don't have in one form or another. Where's Gauntlet II?

Nothing will ever beat playing arcade games in their actual cabs, but for comfort, I'd like to play it on my TV. Besides, my PC isn't powerful enough to run 90% of my games at full speed.

*sigh* I wish I was a child of the 80's. Then I would have lived my active teen years in the 90's. :bawling:

Arcades were a lot better in the early 90's. Now, arcades are dead. If only I was a teenager ten years ago, I would have been playing original games in their cabinets. Well, at least I can play them. It may not be the real thing, but I can play them. :(

I'll still wait for reviews before picking it up, but it'd have to be really messed up for me to not pick it up. However, this being a Digital Eclipse project, it should be running fine.

One thing's for sure: I'm picking up the PS2 version over the other 2. Why? Dual joystick (for Robotron and Smash TV). I'm sure it'll be playable on the GCN and the Xbox, but it wouldn't be the same without the dual joystick setup. And hopefully, they've adapted the controls for Spy Hunter to make the game run just fine on the regular controllers (my guess is that Digital Eclipse probably went for the Colecovision's solution for adapting the controls, except that there wouldn't be any missing buttons).

As for unlockables, one of the games that I suppose will be an unlockable is Moon Patrol, since Gamespot has seen it and it's shown in the official trailer, yet not mentioned in the list of games.

I haven't decided yet, but I might actually buy a copy of the GCN version and one of the PS2 version, since I don't have a PS2 yet but I do have a GameCube. Besides, I have a rebate on the price through my employer, so it wouldn't ruin me anyway.

:? But the Xbox HAS duel analog joysticks. :hmm: One's situated a little higher, but in using Mame-X I'd say it's pretty comfortable for games like Robotron/Smash Tv/Rescue, and works great on Crazy Climber(s), and tank games like Assault, Battlezone, etc.

But yeah I'll probably get the ps2 version as well... cuz it's first :D

I think the C stick on the GC controller will work just fine as your second analog stick.

And I'll get the GC version also cause I support that system as much as I can. :D

I'm not sure if this is old news to everyone, but there are a couple of videos you might be interested in on Midway's web site. One is the "trailer" for the game (includes gameplay video of several titles):

http://www.midway.com/FutureTense/assets/video/mat_launchkit_final.mpg

The other is part of an interview with the guys who created Smash TV:

Are the extras gonna be the same ones from those games as in the Midway Arcade Hits collections too?

Lady Jaye

You're right about the dual stick situation, except that the PS2 dual shock has the advantage of having two same-sized, side-by-side sticks.

BTW, the PS2 and Xbox versions will be released on the same day (Nov. 17), while the GCN version will be out on Dec. 1.

Was anyone able to make the Smash TV interview work? Although it says that it's an MPEG, there seems to be missing a software component (and it won't say which one).

It's not working now for some reason, but I was able to watch it before. If I remember right they were talking about how they came up for the idea for the game from the movie "The Running Man."
