Ok, need some help here. First, backstory w/ names changed to protect the innocent.......we've known a guy who we will call JA (for jackass) for many a year. He's been collecting hockey stuff for some time. His internet access was through one of those TV-internet type deals.

Now, onto the dilemma:

JA has decided to sell some of his stuff on E-bay, but is obviosuly unable to take pictures. So, he asked my mom to teach him and list some stuff for him under his own E-bay account. My mom will show him how to list the stuff and take the pictures, etc. He will deal with the bidders, wrap, ship, etc. The agreement was my mom wouild receive 10% of the final auction totals. A week later, my mom was on the receiving end of $25-$30.....or so we thought.

After the auctions were over, JA called and said he wanted more stuff listed with, of course, my moms help. He brings over some hockey pucks and my mom gets started. About 5 items into the process, JA says something to the effect of "I talked the 10% deal over with my wife and she said that was too much for just listing the stuff. I was thinking 5%, but I'm not sure she'd like that either." Nothing was said for a while after that, but just before he left, he asked "how much should I pay you?" After figuring book value for both sets of auctions quickly in her head, everything should come to around $1000, give or take depending on what this recent batch goes for. My mom said $65 would be fair. He said nothing. Long story short, he left and never gave her a cent. What do we do??? We've known him for a long time, never really had a problem....any suggestions would be welcome!

Edit: note that he also stated that he had been paid for all of the original auctions, so it's not like he doesn't have the money yet.

Cancel the listings.

Introduce JA to Mr. Twobyfour.

Either that, or create a fake account and NPB so he has to pay the fees upwards to the $65.

Yes, its petty and childish, but I wouldn't be so happy if someone took advantage of my mom like that.

wow, that truthfully sucks. I'd cancel all the auctions right away, or tell him if he doen't pay, all auctions will eb canceled ASAP.

10% ? is it really worth it. Tell him if he has me list stuff I charge, friends and family 20-25% .

I would definitely just cancel the auctions she has listed now and not do any more. The guy agreed to 10%. If he doesn't like it, let him go do his own auctions. Obviously this guy is not that good of a friend or he wouldn't take advantage of you and your mother in this manner. If he wants any other favors, politely say no thanks (or get paid in advance).

I have a "friend" who tried to charge me mileage after borrowing his truck (I filled it up with gas, even though I got it empty) and has done other goofy crap like that. After a while you just quit doing things with those people.

Ok, if we cancelled the auctions, it would be obvious who did it (keep in mind it's under his account) and he could very easily report us to E-bay, could he not? I guess it would be hard to prove, but I doubt it would take much effort. Yes, No? :hmm:

Yeah.

Just suck it up, and calmly tell him you didn't appreciate him lying to and taking advantage of your mother. Then disassociate yourself from him.

Really, its the easiest, most legal thing you can do.
