Anyone know how the new TMNT game that just came out for PS2/GC/X-Box is yet?

All I know is that the Gameboy Advance release will not have a link / multiplay option so Konami won't be getting my money.

I haven't really seen anything on it..but I'm a huge TMNT fan. I know the old NES game was cheesy as hell, but it's still one of my fav's. I'm sure I'll be buying this one.

I'm sure I am also, just want to make sure the reviews for it are good before I lay down $40 for it.

The only thing I know is that if it were 4 player instead of 2 I'd be buying one on release day.

True...

I'm thinking it's going to be closer to the old arcade game than the NES game...but good, too. I didn't like the original arcade beat-em-up as much as some of the other titles Konami did, but it looks like that could be fixed here. I'll grab a copy sometime.

The game comes out on Oct 23 for Gamecube and Xbox and I am not sure if the Playstation 2 version also comes out on Oct 23

I've seen a bunch a video on the game and it looks decent. I just think it'll be wierd traveling up and down instead of side to side. But Konami is still making the game so it should be decent.

I'll buy it, but not right away. I'm looking forward to it, after the disappointment that was Turtles in Time! I bought that the day it came out, and beat it on every difficulty within 48 hours. Bah.

all three come out on the 23, and the GBA version is supposed to be out as well that day,

Like others have said, half the fun was the four-way play. Two is still fun, but those other two gamers make the difference. I might buy it if Hostess simultaneously begins reproducing those TMNT pudding pies. Remember those green shell pies filled with mutagen (vanilla pudding)? Damn, those were good!

If those pies come back onto the market, I'll buy the games and that's that.

I'm excited by the prospect of a new TMNT game. I'm not sure when I'll pick it up, but it'll probably be next on my list after Mario Kart Double Dash.

I can't understand why they're trying to revive this franchise. Most of the people who liked TMNT aren't really old enough to care about the old stuff yet, it doesn't seem...and the new toy line isn't really all that incredible. New comic by Dreamwave (creators of the new-and-oh-so-sucky Transformers comics) and other stuff...I just don't see it really taking off.

Now the game - maybe that'll be good. We'll see. TMNT was always the exception to the rule that licensed games are crap.

Let's consider that statement a moment. The 10-scale for reviewing games isn't like the one you are graded on during school. A 7.5 on a 10-scale is actually pretty damn good, being 2.5 points above AVERAGE (5). Why do people think that games that score below an 8 or 9 aren't worth their time? x_x Much like the licks it takes to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, the world may never know.

If I remember right, GI gave the GBA version about the same score...

I'll probably get it eventually, just not on launch day (no money :( ). But I want to have all of the games, and so far I'm only missing two (Hyperstone Heist and TF for NES) so they WILL be mine, suck or not.

...though hopefully they don't suck.

He he...I think you answered the question you then went on to pose in the next few sentences. I'll say that I'm in total agreement with you, though. The grading scale used allows them greater range in sorting out the deluge of really outstanding titles from other, run-of-the-mill workaday titles that are perfect fun but just don't have it all together with as much style as the best, or have some other problems that keep them from being completely wonderful.

Bringing this back due to recent conversations about said game.

I read somewhere, I think it was at another forum, that you have to unlock throws and jumpkicks. If that's true, thats an utterly half assed attempt by Konami to create replayability.

You don't "unlock" it, you have to complete these "dojo missions" that are essentially mini-games between stages. The game got a mediocre rating from Gamespot (6.5), and the review had a very negative tone about everything except the graphics:

Despite the previous comments about the 10-system...generally (not always) I find that games that score below 8.0 or 80% on both Gamespy and Gamespot are ones that I don't want to fool with. If there's a big disparity between the two (1.0 / 10% or more) I usually put more stock in Gamespy's opinion. There are too many good games that fall between 8.0 and 10 to really waste my time and money on things below that unless I really like the genre or the game designer or something like that.

GameSpy recently went to a five-star system (no halves), which made me very happy, 'cause percentile ratings are ludicrous. EGM and Game Informer's Olympic-gymnastics scoring systems are almost as bad.
