I'm still relatively new to the area, and can't find anything other than the Gamestops or EBs.

Does anybody know of some Mom n Pop type locations or stores that deal in obscure games in the area? (Preferably downriver).

You can check the Gibralter Trade Center in Taylor, they have a few game stores. Also on the weekends the Detroiter Truck Stop has a flea market. My friend picked up a number of SMS games last sunday from there.

Outside of those though you've just got to hit the thrift stores.

Oh and there's a Game Crazy on Dix in Lincoln Park, although they don't have any obscure game consoles when I go, they do take them. And Gamespot in Garden City has some good stuff, mostly imports, but some older used carts.

Haha! I've been to the Gibralter trade center and all the had was a bunch of excessivly over priced NES and N64 games.

I live about 1/2 mile from that flea market thing (albeit rather small). Thats where I scored 22 Intellivision games with boxes and overlays for $15 last weekend 8-) New stuff doesn't seem to crop up very often there though.

There is a Game Crazy on Allen and West too if you like that store.

The Game Spot is new to me though! And I'm into the import gaming scene too, so that could be perfect! Do you have an address?

I have to concur on the trade center. The prices they had were ridiculous. Although the last time I went they had some 2600 games, all common and they wanted $5 for loose cart only. Forget that.

That stand in the trade center with the overpriced 2600 games is gone(they got shut down for stolen goods). I got a crapload of NES, Saturn, Genesis, and SNES games cheap there (3 bucks max for any given one) from a different stand, which sadly no longer deals with pre-saturn consoles unless you make a request for a specific title.

Gamespot is not a bad little shop, I got my Saturn and first TG-16 from those guys. I even once saw a complete copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga in there. It was $90 bucks so I passed on it, which I still kick myself about.

theres also a decent open air flea market on Pennsylvania and Middlebelt in Romulus. Flat Rock Speedway also has two big fleas a year, one in the spring and one in the fall.

@Uber: Detroiter Truck Stop? are these still going on? indoor or outdoor? Isn't that the place where Bizounce honed his mad DDR skillz?

I think one of the guys at the Trade Center also has a shop in Wyandotte.

Its at the 75 and West (If we are talking about the same one), it is outdoor.

What are some thrift shops? I only know of the Salvation Army on Eureka (I think...its by a Toys R Us), and they NEVER have ANYTHING except crappy PC games.

Also, how do you find out what days the big swap meets are? I can't find anything except motorcycle swap meets online.

Yeah, thats the same truck stop. I believe its an outdoor flea market (the interior, if you saw it, is not very condusive to a dlea market). And the shop at the trade center that had the Wyandotte location, thats the one that closed.

I know theres a value village on dix, 1 or 2 thrifts on fort, and some St. Vincent DePauls around (don't remember exact locations), but if you want to find a decent number of games in a thrift, I think you'd have to go into detroit.

that Salvation Army on Eureka is a little thin. I have picked up a few good things there though. a Sega Master System, a boxed Odyssey2 with a complete Quest for the Rings and a Berserk board game come to mind.

the Flat Rock Speedway swaps are the first sunday in October and one in the spring, not sure of the date.

Probably cause uber lives right there LOL

I went to Flatrock a few weeks ago, got some good finds & deals. I'm not shelling out my other special places, cause I like my finds there.

Course, it doesn't help that i had to sit next to my competition today in class. :(

@Achika: I was at Flat Rock a few weeks ago too. what time were you there? I got there about 6:45 am and was gone by 8:30. Some of the tables were still setting up so I may have missed some stuff. I did manage an Odyssey2 w/ the voice module and Star Wars for the Game Gear.

btw, I've got a few little gold mines I'm not going to reveal either.

ARE YOU THE ONE WHO SNAGGED THE BOXED ODYSSEY 2? GARRRRRR. I got there at like 7:00 on the button and there was one booth that had the boxed Odyssey 2 but they hadn't unpacked yet. I stood around for like 15 minutes waiting, and they never came back. I went back later and it was gone, but I got their Unisonic Tournament 2000. I also snagged $4 castle of illusion for game gear, pac man puppet, and misc. other goodies.

I guess Pennsylvania is hardly the VG capital of the world. I should travel across America in search of an Odyssey2. Detroit... New York... Miami... Los Angeles... Portland... hey, you never know. Some guy in Portland might be giving away his Odyssey2 in a yard sale. But I need to look harder. I need to get more money and go pimping for vintage video games! :D

yeah, that was me that bought the boxed Odyssey2. I spotted it while they were pulling stuff out of their van. I've already got an Odyssey2 but thought I'd ask if it came with any games. They said there were a few in the box, when I opened it to look there were 6 games all boxed w/ manuals AND the voice module. They wanted $35 and I actually walked away, but I changed my mind and went back and bought it. I figured the voice wasn't going to be something I's see very often. Most of the games were common but I did get Pick Axe Pete, KC's Crazy Chase and Type and Tell.

I almost bought the Unisonic too. have you tried it out? it looked pretty cool. that was the ones with the gun right?

You guys suck. :-P

Seriously though, stay out of my Oakland county. It's mine. You can't have it.

Yeah it came with the gun. I haven't had time to try it yet. I went to my parents house last minute that day and took it with me. I got so busy unpacking my commodore stuff & haven't been home to test it. Maybe this weekend though...Anyhow, I wanted the Odyssey2 for nothing else but the box.

I have an extra box if you're interested. it's a bit scuffed up but still pretty presentable. no major tears, writing or tape.
