Lmao!
Anybody else read that article at GameSpy about how the N-Gage is targeted at people with disposable income (not the GSI regular reviewers, though). Ah!!! Looks like even they're not terribly impressed with it.
I must say.
Holy, holy holy holy CRAP[/strongbad]

Come to think of it...I bet the N-Gage's vertical screen will be great for vertical shooters from 1997 XP

It's kind of a shame in the way. I'm sure the phone/system is kind of neat in it's own way, but it's way too expensive to be taken seriously as a portable gaming device, and yet too crappy to be taken seriously as a mobile phone.
That being said, I like the game cases! They look really neat, and it will be fun to collect the games in a couple of years when the n-gage has gone away. Kind of like a 1/3 sized DVD case.

Well, like they say, what doesn't sell today will be a sought after collectable tomorrow. Maybe the N-Gage will fall into this category someday.

I went around to some of the gamestops by my house not too long ago and asked if any of them had sold any N-Gage's. Highest number: 1
I also got quite the kick out of GMR's review of the N-Gage... caption "The Gigli of gaming has arrived"

All quite true, though I'm startled you couldn't come up with a more fittingly profound way to express your discontent with what is undoubtedly one of the lousier attempts at marketing a game console to be found.

not really because they made a lot of units, and im sure nokia is not going to want all these, they will have a blowout sale

I was just thinking that. Since probably only 5,000 will actually sell, it will probably be rare. Nokia better cut the price WAY WAY down or they are screwed.

I'm just mock parroting the same inane comments everyone else is posting here over and over and over. You all hate the Ngage. We get it already. There seems to be a contest here to see who hates it the most or thinks it's the most stupid idea. I have no discontent with it. Why would I? Why do you? I have nothing invested in it's success or failure. I do think it's odd how willing everyone here is to overlook all the hardware design flaws of other systems yet damn the Ngage for it's flaws. I guess it's lousy marketing for a game console but I don't think it's a typical game console, it's a cell phone that plays games. Like the article said, once T-mobile and others start subsidizing the phone by selling it with phone plans it'll probably start to move more units.

Ah, I figured that's what you were on about. Don't take my comments as a personal dig, I merely meant to be humorous.
Personally I see less that's unattractive about the unit that most people. Hell, I play an old ratty Nomad almost every day for a little while as it's my only Genesis system! I can tolerate the N-Gage's beautiful little screen just fine (didn't notice it being vertical when I looked at it in person, too o_O).
It's just that the price and game selection for the thing kills me. Awful.

I think it's unfair that teh N-Gage was being compared to the GBA, even if they are suppost to be compeditors. When the GBA was launched, it had name recognition already from the original Game Boy and GBC. While I'm not a fan of the -Gage from the hands-on time I've had with it, I'll admit, I thought it a bit wrong to make that comparison.
The price, the general design (a bit small, and awkward to hang on to), the screen (way too small and vertical, IMO), and the lack of a killer ap will leave it in the dust. It's sad, but it's Nokia's fault, really.

It would be one thing if the system had games I wanted to play, but the NGage doesn't offer anything exclusive or even exciting IMO. Regardless, you must admit that removing the battery cover and removing the battery to swap games is the result of poor design, as is holding it sideways to make or receive calls. I wouldn't have so much of a problem with it if it weren't for the 2 key issues:
-Lack of games
-Design
It may be possible that some amazing games will come out for it, but other than the launch titles, what other titles are coming out for it that make you go "Cool!"?
For any system to succeed, it's all about the games (for the most part). Most any design flaw can eventually be overlooked (to a certain extent, of course) if the software selection is outstanding.

The fact that the NGame.com doesn't work with some phone providers (including Sprint-my provider), means that I will not be buying one any time soon.

I think it's unfair that teh N-Gage was being compared to the GBA, even if they are suppost to be compeditors.
The fact that they are "compeditors" (sic) is the very reason they SHOULD be compared. People ask themselves: What must I do to assuage my portable gaming craving? They have a few options, but the one that looms largest on their horizons is the Game Boy Advance.
Here comes a would-be-contender for the prize of Sun of the Portable World: the Ngage. Should it be compared to the GBA? Of course it should be. To do anything else would be asinine. You can't take the thing on its own merits alone - not only because it doesn't really have any but also because any merits it might have pale in comparison to the available alternatives.
Want to play Tomb Raider or Sonic? TR looks & plays better on the PS1 (which last I checked was like $50 new), Sonic is available on GBA and other platforms. Want portable? GBA is $200 cheaper. For that price you could get the GBA and 6-7 games on top of that.
And on and on.

I have a lot of incentive for it to fail.
Another game system with a good collector value that I can pick up cheap. :D

I'm sure it's got some positive points. For instance, .... :help:
well ... at least their onlne game servers won't be overwhelmed. :ass:
But seriously, the few positives that you may come up with minus the numerous negatives discussed on this site just doesn't equal a $300 price tag
The only thing that I can see that it currently has over the GB is online play. But online play is only worth a lick if you can find another person who actually has one of them as well to play against and good luck there.

i will agree......they went too far with appearance. and i do love those game cases. makes me want to pull them all off the wall and take them home with me! but i would love nothing more than to have an N-gage....honestly. but as already stated, the game selection is rather....hashed over. how many portables do you want with sonic on them? and i never looked into the N-gage that much since i heard the price as soon as i was intersted. but that really blows everything up that you have to remove the battery to change the games. what kind of idiot designed this thing? i mean honestly.....were they thinking? and while it's riskier than buying an N-gage, i would much rather have a GP32. because the GP32 is a very versatile device.....and for the price of the N-gage i could have a GP32(w/FLU) and a nice sized card to go with it. but i can't even bring myself to get a GP32. if by some odd chance verizon throws this in a plan for less than $100......i'll bite because my stupid T720 is quite possibly one of the worst pieces of equipment i've ever owned. i'm through with motorola and i think the N-gage as a cell phone would be ok....as long as you used an ear piece or a headset......whichever you like to call it......but man....the first time you have to hold that ridiculous thing up to your ear....i wouldn't even be able to keep a straight face LOL
but that's my 2 cents.......

furthermore, i would buy 2 or 3 if they were the right price....say 49.99, just because i'm leaning on failure and collectablility in a couple of years. but that's just my opinion.......and i want some of those game cases LOL

I have no discontent with it. Why would I? Why do you? I have nothing invested in it's success or failure.
Actually, you DO have an indirect investment in its success or failure, as the videogame industry will analyze what went right and what went wrong with the N-Gage, and adjust its behavior accordingly. Certainly, the industry will learn what gamers DON'T want from a phone/game hybrid -- or even if gamers want a phone/game hybrid at all.
I do think it's odd how willing everyone here is to overlook all the hardware design flaws of other systems yet damn the Ngage for it's flaws. I guess it's lousy marketing for a game console but I don't think it's a typical game console, it's a cell phone that plays games.
It's not that we're ignoring the design flaw of other systems. How many threads have there been on here about the failure rate of PS2s, or the horrendous design of the Xbox's first controller?
The difference is that the N-Gage has so MANY flaws, and so many OBVIOUS flaws. I haven't seen a company this clueless try to enter the videogame market since NEC, and that's fascinating stuff.
Also, you obviously haven't read that Nokia's own staffers aren't allowed to call the N-Gage a "cell phone," although that edict will certainly change as Nokia comes to realize that it's a cell-phone company, not a videogame company. Reminds me of how 3DO refused to call the Interactive Multiplayer a "game console" until it was too late.

No, I was not one of the "lucky". Thought about it, but ultimately decided that there were too many games coming out that my money would be better spent on.
I overheard a salesperson say that they "suckered" a customer into buying the only NGage they've sold. LOL
