I had a blast playing rampage through all 130 or so lvls on an updated version, but by the end it got *so* tedious and there was no reward or anything!

Also lots of all nighters playing Zelda for SNES, getting the crystal from the mountain castle always took forever...

and for modern PC games playing Unreal co-op with my buddy was some of the best gaming ive ever had...as was the nerd fest LAN parties we'd setup in my basement for Baldurs gate during high school before anyone had jobs girlfriends or post secondary homework!

Many a night of my life has been stolen by Dune 2000.

The night that I got Frogger and Balao Travesso for the O2 didn't help me catch up on sleep either. LOL

Definately LAN, online and multiplayer games make for the best all-nghters:

I've lost countless hours to some Xbox Live games:
-MechAssault
-Tetris Worlds Online
-Unreal Championship

Multi-player:
-Bomberman: doesn't matter which version, (saturn version is sweet, 10 players at once!), you and some friends can just lose yourselves in this game
-Gauntlet: "just one more level!"

Gauntlet 2 (NES)
Everquest (PC)
Super Smash Bros. Melee (GCN)

the only game other than counterstrike that I have stayed up all night playing is Super Mario Kart, years ago we'd stay up all night playing first to 99 in battle mode

In college my buddies and me used to play Goldeneye and Mario Kart 64 during many all nighters. Some of the best gaming moments came from those nights. Definitely alot of fun.

Super smash brother melee, caffeine, and some pizza is always a great recipe for an all nighter. Also, if you have multiple xboxs hooked together via LAN, the possibilities are endless.
As stated above, I have lost many nights sleep due to Super Mario Kart and Super bomberman.
Even though I am not into it, Wrestling games provide some of the best and most intense multiplayer out there. A few friends of mine play the new "wrestlemania XIX" for gamecube for hours on end. They will personally compete for each title, (intercontinental, heavyweight, ect) and each challenge can last for well up to an hour. They keep stats posted over who has which "belt", along with challenges, grudge matches, and being able to defend your title. BY the time they go through all four of the major events, as well as some side matches, they have been infront of the TV for eight hours.

It is really too bad that i'm not into wrestling.......

The summer vacation between 7th and 8th grade, my friend and I got Bard's Tale I. This is pretty much how we spent our summer.

We would both play until around midnight. I would go to sleep, and he would continue playing. I would get up around 6am and take over, while he would sleep from 6am-noon. Then we would get each other caught up on where we were, and keep playing.

This pretty much continued all summer until we either ran out of Dr. Pepper or the Commodore over heated. Then we (reluctantly) went outside until the problem was rectified.

Crystalis for the NES.

Back in my Marine Corps days, me and two other guys spent three days nonstop playing it through from start to finish, playing in shifts to eat and sleep when we weren't otherwise consumed with this game. Good times.

OH GOD! Eight guys, two Xboxes, two LARGE tvs, eight s-controllers, two copies of halo + food + drink = the most fun I had this entire summer.

....and I don't even OWN an Xbox. I sure as hell want one NOW though.

Easy!!

Death Tank Zwei ... Saturn

Big load of beers, 7 people. Whilst you are all fiddling round putting your names in, someone invariably whacks the "No. of rounds" up to 200 or something... and suddenly the night has gone and you've still got 10 rounds left, and everyone is desperately trying to bring down the guy in front, but he has been cannily saving money for a few rounds to buy a Hover Coil and a Death's Head and a couple of shields.

Fortunately you have managed to pick up a machine gun turret as a bonus about 30 rounds ago and everyone has forgotten that you haven't used it yet! Nyeh heheh! Then, suddenly ... "Hey kids, it's time for a Blitz round!" Mayhem all around!!! Nukes and deaths heads fly everywhere and everyone is shooting like crazy and everything has been turned on its head!!

BEST MULTIPLAYER GAME IN THE WORLD!!

No question.

Puzzle Fighter II Turbo. Learned that you can't put a Saturn on the carpet for an extended period without it overheating. Oops....

Back in March a group of us managed the full 4 Xboxs/4 TVs/16 controller team game of Halo. Definitely quite a riot :D

I forgot to mention the summer when diablo 2 came out, literally I spent the whole summer playing it, that was epic for its time!

The longest I ever played one game strait was the original Tie Fighter...It took 3 months for me to get it working so i used to read the manual over and over and it came with a free star wars novel about an imperial pilot...i was so into the game's story when It was working I think I played it for every available hour i wasnt easting or sleeping for what felt like months

The first time I played a game late was in the early eighties.. I played Zork I until 3:00am which was unhead of for me (I was probably 9 at the time)

Spent more then a few full nights playing Bard's Tale 1 and Pool of Radiance.

Everquest was a late into the night affair so much that I almost doesn't count.

I used to work 3rd shift in a home for mentally disabled adults. I bought a NES and SMB3 for just that purpose. The only responsibilities were that you had to be awake all night in case something happened. It was heaven.

When I was in college I'd play Civilization and lose all track of time. I'd "wake up" from the hypnotic effect and realize it was 5am.

Early College days, my buddies and I went on GoldenEye and Tetris binges.

I really miss those days. :(

Back in high school we used to have all-night PlayStation and N64 fests.

PSX:
Worms - 16 player worms running from midnight to when the sun came up.
Gran Turismo - When this was released it was a dream come true for us. We devised our own tournaments. Top stuff.
Bloody Roar - I'm sure the neighbours could hear us yelling "BEAST!" when our characters turned into large rabbits at 3am.

N64:
WCW vs nWo: World Tour - Gameplay was frequently halted due to all four players rolling on the floor in laughter.
Vigilante 8 - Four player mode? Rock on.
GoldenEye 007 - Grenade launchers + insane players = gaming madness.

Ahh....it was truly the 'good old days'...

In my sophomore year of college I emerged from many late-nite sessions of Scorched Earth. I understand that Death Tank and DT Zwei are much the same. Hell, they both have the Death's Head! The trick is to launch it so that the one spot on the screen that's not destroyed is where you are.

I remember playing the original Super Mario Bros. for insanely long stretches of time back when I first got my NES. I was 9 years old. Then when SMB 3 came out, that was my new ticket to lots of all-nighters.

But the best gaming moments I can remember from childhood was when it was just me, my SNES, and Super Metroid. Soooooo many long hours spent with that game.

As far as recent games, Enemy Territory for PC will make the hours fly by too. Great game!

I've had some freaked-out nights with Eternal Darkness, where I'll just sit and play for hours and hours on end. But to be honest, I've probably had some of the best times just sitting in the middle of the night playing Tetris.

I did go to a LAN once (yup, only once, stupid PC!) and we were playing CS and Quake and even Serious Sam until 7 a.m. the next morning. That was pretty fun. 8-)

I've had too many video game allnighters to count. But the ones that stand out the most invariably involve sports games. Renting NHL 95 for the weekend and trying to go through a complete season with two people (82 games each) plus playoffs, and be finished by Sunday evening, is a weekend I will never forget.

In the words of the immortal Phil Hartman: Good times, good times!

I think I had one with Gunstar Heroes. I was trying to beat Golden Silver on Hard difficulty. I think I gave up. I'm sure this isn't the only instance of staying up past the wee hours for gaming, but this is the only one that I can recall for now.

I'll second PSO. It was released just as I had to do my final-year dissertation at university.

"Hmm. Should I study and get an early night, or sit and wander Ragol for 8 hours?"

Well, you've got to prioritise these things... ;)

The original Tony Hawk game on the PS1 had my brother and I battling in Horse Mode for many an hour... the sequels never matched it for me.

However, the Winning Eleven (Pro Evolution Soccer etc) series has taken more of my life than any other game. The most common phrase when a group of us are playing into the small hours is 'Go on then.. one more game'.

WE is always good. Last weekend most time was taken on that, plus MKDD in 14 player mode, Halo on 16 player mode, Made in Wario GC, that drum game on PS2, SC2 and a couple of other things.

Azure Dreams-me and my bud stayed up so many nights to beat this game
Super Mario RPG-same here
Super Smash Bros (and melee)-these games exist in a time/space where hours go by like minutes
Powerstone 2-Mega Man's buster, throw in rivalries between Galuda and Gourmand, and you've got a winner
Goldeneye- Remote mines are fun!
Halo-ok, this game has no sense of time. You can look up from an intense match and see 4 hours have passed.
Smackdown Shut Your Mouth-Evil Lincoln, Boogieman, Men at Work, 'Primetime' Chris Mullins, Foodle Spanes, Puffy AmiYumi, Ikari Warriors, seriously-this game is a laugh riot.

Good topic!

Definetly PSO. That's been the only game to keep me up consecutive nights... for around 3 years. LOL

I'm sure DigitalPress knows what I'm talking about. Huh..HUH?! ;)

Heh, I made the mistake of getting this while the World Cup was going so my days were spent watching soccer and my nights playing it.
