3 in a row, same guy:
Never use a gmeshark device n a ps or ps2, they rewrite the chips on those systems and it screws up, sony tells everyone that.
Blockbuster CD games with those sticker things on them, ruin ps2s and they are unplayable depending on what ps2 you have, because the sticker actually raises the cd game higher and can scratch your lense.
NES systems never need new connector pins, they just need lower voltage adapters, man do some repair shops have a scam going.
If i didn't have to buy something, i would have laughed my ass off.

Ha ha HA
Especially at the second one. I could see a sticker throwing the game offbalance before doing that...especially since the sticker's on the side that's AWAY from the lens.
Freaking...morons.
Even good employees get things wrong, like the one telling me that Link's Adventure (the GameBoy title) was just a port of Zelda LttP!

Of course you mean Link's Awakening, not Adventure. And yes I work at Gamestop.

Grr, so I went ahead and made a second error today, despite what I said earlier. You know, I've been having more trouble remembering the titles for that series, especially since I've been working on gametz.com's site feedback forum to try and get their listing for the Japanese Legend of Zelda fixed. Legend of Zelda 2 was called just that, but there was kanji as well which romanizes to "Link no Bouken" or "The Adventure of Link." Link's Adventure...heh, I'd take Awakening any time before that one, but the title Link's Adventure sounds like it should belong to a decent game :P

Yesterday I heard the employee just keep telling people the "Xbox sucks". No reasons, just "it sucks".
If I wasn't really into all the old NES and Genesis games I was holding, I woulda argued. But I wouldn't know what to say. He did sell a GCN to a girl who didn't know which modern system she wanted. Don't know if it was really a good decision or not, as long as she picked th GCN and not the PS2. That system sucks!! LOL ;)

I've actually heard that the second is true. Note I said "heard," which doesn't equate to "know for a fact," or even "believe." I've also heard some Gamestop/EB employees say some stupid stuff but a lot of them around me are pretty knowledgeable (save for the "holiday" workers, but that's pretty much par for the course). Probably the most annoying thing about my local EB is this fat guy witha girl's haircut that bugs you with unnecessary info, allow me to elaborate:
*guy and girlfriend playing DOA3 on the Xbox kiosk*
EB guy: "HEY HIT (INSERT BUTTON COMBINATION HERE) TO DO THIS REALLY AWESOME MOVE!"
*guy and girlfriend exchange awkward glances*
EB guy: "NO, YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG!"
*guy and girlfriend visibly annoyed*
EB guy: "WANT ME TO SHOW YOU HOW TO DO IT?"
*guy and girlfriend leave*

More to the point, if it caused the disc to rise, that would be AWAY from the lens, right?
But actually, they can make the disc offbalance like you said, and that leads to wobble while spinning, which possibly could lead to damage to the disc and/or the mechanism, so despite the fact that the guy has his head up his ass on the specifics, it COULD in fact be bad, and so what he said isn't TOTALLY worthless. :-)

the block buster sticker thing does cause off balance and can cause problems with your lens...what's the cure? put a sticker on the opposite side...no joke, this will rebalance the cd. You'll see a lot of BB games with stickers on both sides, this is to offset the the unbalance (kind of a weird double negative there)...
As far as gamestop employees go, here's the breakdown (i used to work there)...out of ten people
1 total ass that thinks he knows everything and will impose his opinion on anyone and everyone...
2 that couldn't care less...
1 super cool dude that likes the new systems and knows very little...
2 that know absolutely nothing about gaming
2 that know games but arent very good at getting their point across.
1 that will talk with every one and anyone about anything in order to keep out of work, also is usually an anime freak
1 that knows his shit more than you could imagine. Can sell any item to any person and only seems to have the same opinion as the customer (great selling tactic)
that's the way it goes... :D

*sigh* I ALWAYS avoid GS and EB for video game-related advice. I would ask you guys instead. Everyone here knows a squidload more than any GS clerk... unless someone here works there. :D

I was going to work at my local Funco, maybe I should... we don't have anybody who knows a lot and has all the shit you can imagine and everything else that's in the last category. I have a nice-sized lot, I know a bit, and I like what the customer likes (or I can try, I never got into Gran Tourismo...). :D

I thought it was funny when some dude came into GS and asked which system he should buy. The guy that worked there said buy the Xbox it has the best graphics and games. When the dude asked which games to buy the GS guy named 3: Halo (duh!) DOA3 (kind of a surprise) Splinter Cell (Another duh).
Then the dude asked which games are good for the PS2 and the GS guy said: Final Fantasy Series, Virtua Fighter, Grand Theft Auto, and about a billion others. Basically the only reason the GS guy told the dude to get the Xbox is because of the graphics. Wow thanks for the crappy suggestion, Id rather play my SNES than play with "cool graphics" games anyday, thank you very much.

where are u guys from, almost every gamestop in minnesota is the worst stores to go in and the employees are all assholes exept maybe 1 or 2.
so my point is that eb games and gamestop are equal it all maters about the employees and y bash eb all the time they price match anyways so if gamestop or anyother retailer sells 4 less u get it 4 the same price.

Not really. I was in an EB and some prices were lower and I overheard the employee dumbass saying "We're so proud that our prices are lower than our competitors..."
Oh, and USE ENGLISH!!! YOU EVER HEARD OF CAPITALS AND PUNCTUATION?

if you want games, put an ad in the paper. i hate everything about GS and EB. if it's not some idiot behind the counter, it's the stickers all over everything. For the love of god you can't even read half the labels once they get done with them.

So, have you seen Nintendo's ad for the newly price-dropped GameCube, then? :P
What I tend to dislike about GameStop/EB/whoever is their overriding arrogance, as exemplified by their supposed pricing leadership. Why is it, then, that all the used games (for new systems) are roughly the same price as it would cost to get a new one anywhere else?
Also, when a large portion of a company's business is based on the expectation of pre-orders, something seems amiss. :o

Actually, I have heard of 3rd party peripherals messing up systems, mainly the Gameshark. No chip rewriting, though. x_x
The only thing that BBV stickers will do to a disc is throw it off balance.
Sounds like that guy is a real idiot to me.
