Well, considering the proprietor of the site is a longstanding member around here, it shouldn't be too long before he pokes his head in with an answer.

You mean Dire 51? Oh, he should. :D :D :D :D :D
Anyway, I can also tell you all you need to know about Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts. It's my favorite of the G'NG trilogy, and it is the cause of much of my frustration. LOL
Anyway, the game is seven levels, you go through it twice, and if you pass the second loop, you go to the true final boss fight. Eight weapons available for use, and a special weapon that can only be obtained in the second loop. You can only sustain two hits, the first one takes off your armor, and the second one is the fatal blow. I know everything there is to know about this game, but hey, that's not my website. And so, Dire, I give you the floor. :)
And this is pretty much the greatest G'NG site on the net, IMHO. :D

I know everything there is to know about this game
Hahaha.
Anyhow, that's a really simplified version of things you've supplied there. The cover artwork for the U.S. release is horrible, some badly drawn knight on the front. The Japanese Super Famicom release isn't called "Ghouls 'n Ghosts 3" or any such thing--first off, it's third in the series but the very original game is Ghosts 'n Goblins, or Makaimura (Demon World Village or some such) in Japan. The second, which is the first Ghouls 'n Ghosts game, is Daimakaimura (great makaimura) and the third, Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts and the game in question, is Chomakiamura, sometimes called Choh Makaimura. Cho means "big," for example... CHO ANIKI!!!
Hah, but it's true. When I spell out the name of each game I go by the easy standard of what's written on the Japanese box and title screen, which always has the syllables compressed into a single word. For example, under the kanji in the title for the WonderSwan Makaimura there's some text which reads "Makaimura for Wonderswan" --that's pretty straightforward.
Now with the GBA port we have Super Ghouls 'n Ghosts for the GBA, known in Japan as Chomakaimura R (the R is standard for GBA ports of old games, such as Darius R).
Chomakaimura lets you double jump, is the first game in the series that wasn't ported to the Sharp Sinclair, Commodore 64, Amiga, or any of those other goofy platforms. The box art on Chomakaimura is excellent, so pick it up if you can find a copy in good shape. Incidentally, while the box is the same height as other Super Famicom games, it's a bit narrower than the rest. The final boss from the first game appears more than once in Super GnG, and there are two larger "forms" that resemble his original form (three types in all, one's green and one's...well, won't spoil that one for ya).

so there never has been a ghouls and ghosts 3. Thanks for the info - I know most of what was written here, I actually should have been clearer - I just wanted to know if there was an unreleased Makaimura for super famicom. I just didn't remember those big pots shown in the egm pictures (the second link).
any info on the proto vesrion? was it any different from the released version?

I still can't see the pic in that first link, but I think the site spells out what you're looking at pretty well. These pots you speak of must've been in the alpha/beta only, and I wouldn't be surprised if they're in there seeing how they've got the dragon boss from the very first Makaimura in that pic.
Hope that helps sort things out.

thankyou for the input - I made a mistake - I ment the first link.
the link does not work for you? it does for me. Basically, the pictures show a Super Famicom Makaimura with quite differnet characters and characteristics.

It looks more primitive, and it's a magazine scan, right? Are those the two EGM scans found somewhat further down on the page you linked to (second link)? Those pics are what I'm talking about, don't see this pot though.

yeah, that's right its those pictures. It does look primitive. Are there no pots there? maybe my eyes are decieving me.

I don't see any, but I know what you're thinking of. Yeah, what's a good Ghosts 'n Goblins game without the pots?? :P
In the pictures above they've got the bird monster with its eggs, maybe that's what you were thinking of? I doubt that, though.

check the first picture on the right in the first link (if you can't open it check the second link - scroll to the bottom of the screen and click whee it says egm pictures). there is a blue pot there. and the badguys look like goblins.

Oh, that's totally different. COOL, I didn't know about that! It does look rather odd, very beta :D

Those beta shots are pretty neat. That would be a kickass proto to find.

Hmm, I'll check this out later. Since that site never seems to let me view images, I'll have to take a look through The Arcade Flyer Archive sometime, or maybe through the millions of files on my HD, I know I've saved them all LOL

Yes. You shoot up and down in Ghouls n Ghosts.

Any time I see a G'NG topic, I have to pop my head in. :)
First off, Devilredeemed: thanks for the props on the site! :D
Okay, everything else:
Nope, no 2 player simultaneous G'NG game that I've ever seen. If there is one, I doubt it ever made it out of Capcom Japan. The picture of Ghouls 'N Ghosts that shows two Arthurs is a shot of Arthur using the Dagger Magic - it creates a duplicate of Arthur that mimics him for a few seconds. Kind of cool, and sometimes useful.
Just like Arnold said, you shoot up and down in Ghouls 'N Ghosts, and only in Ghouls 'N Ghosts. Why Capcom never carried that feature over to any other G'NG game is beyond me... although it was probably just to make sure the difficulty stayed high.
"Ghouls And Ghosts 3" I'm pretty sure is just the name EGM gave to Super G'NG before they found out what the actual US title was. I've never seen any pictures of that proto other than that.
Oh yeah, and Geocities won't let you link directly to pics. Sorry. The flyer in question is in the Artwork section, if anyone wants to check it out.

Ditto. What can I say? On the umpteenth day, I grew up on these games.
And they are good. :D
Yeah, I thought Daimakaimura was the easiest game in the trilogy, and one of those reasons was the ability to shoot upward and downward. Of course, Choimakaimura allowed you to double-jump, but I think four-directional shooting gave you a clear advantage over the opposition. Taking more than two hits would have also been helpful for Arthur, but that's not the G'NG way. The G'NG way is driving your controller through your television. LOL

And that is that.
Thank you for the information. I really wish some of the stuff that was dispelled had been true.. oh well.
I really want to play Makaimura for Wonderswan. It looks amazing.
And so does Ghouls 'n Ghosts in its 16 bit console renditions all these years on. Best game's music ever. I just wish it wasn't so unforgiving. That's a bit off putting in my opinion.
And I don't think something like Maximo is upto the standard of the series. I really don't like it.

Well, I had the MfW ROM on the site for a while, but I've since removed it. Don't really want to violate the Geocities ToS, after all.
It's quite good... just wish I had a chance to play it more.

now if you can just do a final fight website we would be set.
You would have covered my favourite games of all time.
Is there any comic books that are Ghouls 'n Ghosts related?
Its amazing what Capcom and Konami, Nmaco, etc. where pulling of until the mid 90's....

I don't know enough about Final Fight to even think of starting a site about it, but the FF section of Street Fighter Legends is quite nice.
Sorry, no G'NG comics that I've ever seen, but if anyone finds one, let me know!

"Ghouls And Ghosts 3" is basicly an alpha / early version of Chohmakaimura (Super Ghouls 'N Ghosts) That should be obvious because of some of the graphics, even though other parts of the graphics and those enemies never made it into the final game.
