I'm hearing through the grapevine that due to the GC exploit (which I hear works pretty darn well), Nintendo is putting a halt on BBA sales pronto. So if you're lucky to still have some near you, maybe it's time to pick one up soon :P

EDIT: Maybe I should try a quick google before I post next time.

On Nintendo's site in the store section it says that it is on backorder until the 27th of this month. Maybe it is just a manufacture mess up or something. Considering that some games are finally using it maybe they are holding out until they are released. Mario Kart DD pack in would be cool.

BBA? what?.............

BBA? what?.............
The Broadband Adapter (usually used for games like Phantasy Star Online). Basically since you can use the BBA to transfer pirated ISO's of games that are now flooding the internet (like Viewtiful Joe, F-Zero etc.) from your pc to the Gamecube, I'm hearing that Nintendo is quickly removing all BBA's from the stores.

$50 from Nintendo or $70 on eBay

Umm... retail price on these is $34.99. Even bought straight from Nintendo, you're not out $40. Ebay prices are inflated. Remember a few months ago when they were "rare?"

Eh, eBay is inflated, but they're still running fairly expensive right now - I saw a $69 BIN and a few late auctions at around that price.
If you want it in 2 weeks from Nintendo, it's $40. If you want it sooner, it's over $40 ($43-48), plus tax.

Supposedly, Nintendo is "fixing" the new batch so that the BBA hack won't work with it. And that is why they temporarily stopped shipping them. :hmm:

and they think somebody won't find a way around their fix....... LOL
when will companies ever learn that they are just wasting money trying to fix these holes that only hurt them. with microsoft......they have to fix these things and can easily distribute it. but all nintendo is going to do is piss people off.....and waste money because i'm pretty sure that somebody will find a way around it.

damn, wanted to get one eventually to fully deck out my GC too :grr:
The one I want to get is the Japanese PSO + BBA combo, though just for show and the collection.

Why do I have a feeling this is going to be that item you can not find at Christmas time?

and tell me if this is right...
in order to play Mario Kart DD with 8 players, you need to use the BBA right?
Yes sir....

Since you have to use PSO to do the exploit I would think they would recall that...

Just an FYI. Nintendo ships UPS ground (4-8 days) for 5.00, and 2 day air for 7.00. The BBA is 34.95, so it would be 39.95 or 41.95 for 4-8 day or 2 day shipping respectively.

Pirated ISOs? What's this?
I heard that there was some sort of exploit in PSO that let people execute arbitrary code on Gamecubes, but has this now been extended to full games? I thought they were special discs that couldn't be copied anyway.

I'm guessing you can use the BBA to upload data from an ISO to the GameCube where it will be run. The loading times must be awful, but mitigated somewhat since it's broadband and not the regular phone line modem.

It is like xbox and dc games you have to use the system itself to copy the games from what I understand. Some rumbling indicate a program to let you do it yourself. I think youu have to use Pso no matter what though. Also you stream it from your computer over your network connection.

Yeah, I was just counting in tax and processing time (in addition to shipping time) as listed on their site - the quickest route is to pay $50 (48 and tax).

They didn't recall it since there were so few on the store shelves anyway. (It's been hard to find for a while now).
But they put a hold on new copies and have the bug fixed now.
So in future PSO releases the hack won't work.

That is if they release anymore.
Rumors are that they aren't going to . They are betting everything on their new next gen console.

Yeah, the console we haven't heard a thing about? I have no idea how far they are in development, ya know. O_o

All console companies begin working on their next system before the first system is even released. The N64 was being worked on before the SNES was released. It's poor marketing to make announcements about your next system while the current system is still being sold. Most states don't charge sales tax on Internet sales, and over the phone only three states have sales tax.

So Nintendo is going to recall/modify this to stop the .001% of users that are going to go through all that hassle to upload a GC game from their PC. That's dumb. They'll probably lose more money from the people who can't buy a BBA in the interim.

It's a control thing. Nintendo throws their weight around no matter what the cost.
Look at all the money they spend to stop NES roms on the internet.

Don't forget that this is still a rumor, and an unsubstantiated one. I have yet to hear anything official or otherwise regarding this.

Yep.. It's just a rumor. That's why I was careful to say that I just heard it throught the grapevine (which I did) and of course the "?" in the topic title :D

Heck, if I was Nintendo (yeah, the entire corporation) I'd put the rumour out there myself. Think about it, you have a piece of hardware that's kinda pricey (vs. the cost of the console) and has very limited use (does anything other than PSO and Mario Kart(?) actually use it?) What better way to insure you sell them out than to imply they will no longer be avaliable because you can do something illegal with them?
Of course, then you'd have to double up the efforts to assure the ISOs aren't avaliable...
