Holy crap, you can play that on SNES?

That's the only cart game I've ever experience loading time with... absolutely absurd, the machine can not handle that game. Excellent game on any other platform.

SF2 Turbo is hands down the best. Timeless.

Street Fighter 2 Turbo. Alpha IS impressive how Capvom managed to fit everything into the cart, but yes, the loading times and lack of some animations due to the limitations does bring it down a few notches.

Are you on crack? Original SF2 was horribly unbalanced - a decent player with Guile, Zangeif or Dhalsim could absolutely nail everyone else.
Turbo fixed most of this, and is still my favourite SNES game to this day.

To me it was SSF2

Never being a big fan of speed, Super SF II was the king. The most characters, more backgrounds, slightly retouched music, and still the same solid gameplay. However, tons will pick Turbo and I don't really want to disagree with them. It's a great game in it's own right.

Street Fighter 2 turbo. It didnt have any of the new characters like Dee Jay. I swear to this day the only reason they did this was because major ethnic groups weren't represented in the previous versions.....

I passed on the first SF2 for SNES while test running it at a friends house. Turbo is the way to go!

I'm also voting for Street Fighter II Turbo.

While it's probably true that I got more actual play time out of the original SNES SF2, I still think the turbo version is the better game. They really kept the controls feeling the same (all of your old combos work, and the "timing" always felt right, even when sped up) and the speed can be turned down if you want that old SF2 feel.

I really liked the addition of being able to play Ken vs. Ken or Ryu vs. Ryu. That's the single biggest step they could have taken toward making things balanced. Yes, I know this feature was introduced in the version before Turbo, the Championship Edition, but that never came out on SNES.

Does anyone remember the code you could enter on the title sequence to allow an additional 6 or so levels of faster turboness!?!? I can't remember the exact code, but I remember how much fun it was to play with the speed maxed out once in a while.

I think it'll be forever imprinted in my conciousness:

Down, R, Up, L, Y, B, X, A :D

Wow, you don't know too much about this game then.

You pick Ryu, I pick Guile, I destroy you. End of story.

Here, I'll explain the situation to you.
Ryu's dragon punch does not knock down on the ground, making it worthless for all things but jumpins, and Guile does not need to jump in.
Guile has such fast recovery from sonic boom in that game he can throw a jab one, follow it in, and then hit you, no matter what you do. jump? he can airthrow or crouch fierce. Block? Throw. Let it hit, and he can Fierce you, or throw you.
Dhalsim was the only one with a chance against Guile because he could slide under the sonic boom, giving him the ONLY good option against that. Zangief has decent, only because if he got one 360 off, he could do it over and over and win the match.
Even if you take those 3 out, Ryu and Ken still suck, due to the crappy shoryuken, crappy hurricane kick, and a fireball that anyone who can space out where they jump can deal with.

I don't know one game from the other, but I know that in my search for the game that looked like that first Street Fighter 2 I played, I still haven't found the game that looked like what I remembered.

I've said it before and I'll say it again.. EVERYONE thinks they're the best at Street Fighter. Doesn't matter where you go, you'll find someone who thinks they're invincible.. And they're probably right to a certain extent ;) The only way to settle it is to FIGHT! :D

Personally.. I think I'd give any RYU/KEN/Guile player who thinks they're kings a run with my extremely uncoventional/ honed over 10 years technique with E-HONDA 8-)

Never being a big fan of speed, Super SF II was the king.

Neither was I.. But I'll still say SF II Turbo is the king. I just turn down the speed by taking off those darn Stars to just 1 or 2. Voila... instant speed reduction on par with the other sf2 games :)

I think a lot of it is to do with the fact that when playing in a limited group, it's easy to get used to everyone's playing style, since most players tend to fall into the same old patterns after a while. I like to think I'm pretty handy, and can take most peole I play around here, but would never assume that I'm a true Streetfighting God.
Sigh, if only SSF2T For Matching Service had made it to the Dreamcast in the US/Europe, we'd have been able to settle it properly :)

Not to join the band wagon, but I also agree Street Fighter II Turbo was the best. I think that all the characters are balanced to the point that with the right amount of practice you don't have to be limited to the "best" character in the game. You could learn to dominate with any one of the characters.

And it sounds to me that someone needs to host a SF2T tourney. Then we could at least humble those who have a haughty attitude.

Yeah especially now that everyone has had years and years of practice!
