CodeName: MegaZine # 1 (1992 fanzine) Available as Download

I don't know if anyone is interested... But... I've digitized and made available Issue 1 of a video game fanzine that I used to edit - it was called Codename: MegaZine. It was a compilation zine with 6 editors, and was released around the same time that Digital Press was in single digit issues.

Some topics covered:
--Street Fighter II Hits Home Screens
--An Interview with the editor of Computer Game Review and CD-ROM Entertainment (Produced by the EGM folks)
--4 pages of Neo Geo reviews and hype

--Many, many... sad but "in hindsight" hilarious comments by a younger me.

Anyway, I noticed that there are a few former faneds that crawl the boards here, so I thought I'd give everyone a heads up, and see if I can make contact with anyone I used to know.

Much thanks for all your efforts to preserve all those great zines. Those were such great times, and I still think they're better reads than any of the prozines.

BTW, does anyone have any of my old zine issues (V) lying around? I'd like to put the covers on my website, but I tossed out all my fanzines years ago.

If you give me permission, I'll gladly post your zine. I have the "Special Feature: Best Games of 1992" issue (Top Secret "photos" of Mortal Kombat for Super NES and Sega Genesis).

You know, I keep forgettting about the slice of toast. I wonder just how much I was drinking when I came up with that? Wasn't that my "greatest hits" issue or something. Ugh - how lazy is that?

Oh, and Larson, feel free to put all my zines on your site. I'm impressed that you remember all this stuff. The only way I could remember now is to pull out my old copies of Video Games magazine that had V mentioned. Again, put everything you have online.

As for the zines' value, I don't think any of these would fetch any money on Ebay until one of the authors becomes famous for something. The printed word isn't one of those things that becomes valuable when it's hidden away; in fact, it's just the opposite. This was such a small scene (relatively speaking) that added exposure could only help. And isn't this what the Internet is supposed to be about, anyway?
