View Full Version : Can you turn a GameBoy Advance into a portable SNES?

I would think that somebody clever would have figured out some kind of way to take SNES roms that you can download off the internet, and somehow get them to play on a GameBoy Advance.

Could you imagine if you could just use a GameBoy Advance as a portable SNES? That would be freaking awesome! They could have a blank cart, that would go into the GameBoy Advance cartridge slot, and you could put different SNES roms on it. It could have a docking station and a USB cable to connect to the PC, so that you could then transfer a SNES rom to the special GBA cart, and then you could play all your fav. SNES games on the go.

Now, obviously, this should only be used if you own the actual SNES cart. But, if you are like me, then you are slowly but surely building up a huge SNES library, so that really wouldn't be a problem.

GBA isn't powerful enough for that, but they do have an NES emulator for it.

If it isn't powerfull enough for that, then why does it have tons of SNES remakes on it?

Those SNES remakes are ports.... Rewritten and optimized for GBA. It is way to weak to run an emulator. At least that's my understanding.

This has been explained many a times... the GBA is not powerful enough to handle a SNES emulator, especially since the ram of the GBA is not large enough to even hold a snes rom. Plus considering the snes and GBA hardware are nothing alike leaves a lot of problems.

GBA is already SNES Jr.

playstation one isn't even fast enough to emulate anything other than NES. and i don't think a GBA has the same power as a ps1......but i could be wrong....

what you just described is pretty much EXACTLY what a gba flash card does. except with gba games, not snes ones. if you want one, be prepared to order one off some sketchy website from china or hong kong. they can store about 6-10 gba games on it at once, and it plays like a multicart. but, you can play nes games on the gba with one too! i think of it kind of like an nes ipod because you can fit tons of games.

I got a GBA multi-carts here, 120 in one, besides a few GBA games, the rest are all NES games hacked into GBA cart, I'd say that SNES games are possible, just not as many games into one cart like NES. The cart is awesome considering the games aren't even published officially for GB and/or GBA.

The GBA is quite similar to a portable SNES. Look at all the Mario remakes.

Not really. I mean, if someone really puts in the effort to make a great full speed emulator, it's possible to a certain extent. But SNES9XGP certainly isn't it...

Here is my question. Did any of you ever see that SNES mod of a portable SNES. I think he called it a SNESp.
Well, I always had a thought drifting around my head similar to his. Do you think that you could take the screen from a GBASP, saw down a SNES jr. system, and make a portable system after some modification?
even possible?

do not take the screen from an SP..........buy a screen. and i'm sure it's possible....only problem i see is the batteries.....same as with gameaxe, i'm pretty sure that ate up batteries as well. and that would be on large piece of hardware :eek 2:

That's from the VCSp page at http://www.classicgaming.com/vcsp/.

Using the GBA screen would be unlikely. Portable TVs or possibly the PSone LCD would be the way to go.
