View Full Version : Games that you have been hunting for all your life

I'm talking about games that you must own or play until you die. Me? I've got four:
Gradius Gaiden (Playstation)
Kaze Kiri (PC Engine CD)
Radiant Silvergun (Saturn)
Akumajo Dracula X: Chi no Rondo (PC Engine CD)
What are some holy (or not-so-holy, or just plain unholy) that you have been searching for almost all your life?

Must... have... Neo Geo...
I know, it's a system, not a game, but I still want one bad. Just wish I didn't have to pay like $400 for one. ^_^
Also, I had a NES copy of Burgertime stolen from me some years back. I'd like to pick that up again one day. Not rare, I know, I just haven't gotten around to doing it yet.

Dracula X PC-E discs aren't rare. I thought that if I didn't snatch up the first Akumajo Dracula x68K I ran across that I'd never come across another. Well, I've got two now, and one is basically new and was about $34 cheaper than the other.
Recently I've had a couple things sort of come my way that I never expected to have a chance at getting.

Good topic :) I've been trying to think of some games like this, but I'm drawing a blank. There have been a few that up until recently would qualify for me, such as this spring I finally just had to have Gain Ground for the Genesis, I had been on and off again looking for a mint copy of this and it was so elusive, but I finally got it from Half.com(RIP) for cheap...a small triumph for me.
I had wanted a good home version of Super PacMan for the longest time and I also filled that dream this summer when I bought the repro 5200 cart from AtariAge. I'm sorry to say that I don't really have any games left that I have been hunting for...at least not off the top of my head. Well, thats not true, I do want a copy of Battleshpere for Jaguar.

Thanks, Ed. Unfortunately, I also need a PC Engine CD. I'm also hunting for that, but what I'm really shooting for is a TurboDuo. I hear that is quite a rarity. X_x

Thanks, amigo. :D
I'd also like to own several Saturn imports, such as BulkSlash and the entire Capcom Generation series.

I finally nabbed Power Lords and all four Parker Bros. O2 games. Those are really my "lifelong" wants. I'd like the Ralph Baer pinball cart too, but that's a more recent bit of video gaming lust there, not something I've been stalking for 20 years.

Yeah, this is a good topic.
Sotenga, for that system: gamechoice.com.hk, for all their slowness, is pretty honest and has a good selection, just make sure they actually have it before you order and DON'T accept no SUBSTITUTES :grr: If you want, though, you could wait until I get my last shipment from them to see if I have any problems with that. Shipping will be pretty high, but they've got good stuff.

All my life I've been searching for something
Something never comes never leads to nothing
Nothing satisfies but I'm getting close
Closer to the prize at the end of the rope
All night long I dream of the day
When it comes around then it's taken away
Leaves me with the feeling that I feel the most
Wait, what was the question? :)
I suppose if theres anything I've been looking for a very long time and still don't have, it would probably be..... <thinks real hard>.... hmm, the only thing I can think of videogame related, would be the original tetris on the gameboy, I haven't played it in about 10-13 years now.... Just that STUPID DX version...

Someday, someone will identify that mystery TI99/4a game I've been wondering about. And point me to a ROM. And then I will play it, and realize that it really wasn't nearly worth the trouble of looking for it.

Rev, this isn't directed towards you specifically or an attack, but I'm surprised that people still think that Neo hardware costs an extraordinary amount of cash. I know people who buy three or four new modern games almost every week and yet say they can't afford a Neo :eek 2: I can't believe that the 90s stigma is still attached over 10 years later.
As for my Must Have Before Croaking game: Soldier Blade (PCE) amd Guardian Heroes (Saturn). Both arent hard to come buy, I just forget about em when cash is on hand lol

the handheld VFD versions of Pengo and DigDug. I don't know how I missed these back in the 80's when they were probably plentiful. :hmm: Especially since arcade handheld conversions got me crazy as a kid.
I do have a LCD version of Pengo.. but never came across the VFD version. I'd love to have it :D

easy,
the metal slug series. but to play the originals, I'll need a Neo-Geo first and contrary to what jay says they still aint cheap. Jay if you find a cheap source, I'll give you a nice finders fee.
~Tj
but for those games I cant live without, its also the cheapest: MINDSWEEPER (I had to throw out my mouse and replace it with a trackball because I was playing it 6 hours a day, I managed to get expert down to 62 sec).

The cheapest way to get a NEO GEO AES is to buy an unmodded, unboxed console with a controller. You could probably get that for $100-150. Not bad. They can still be expensive though when modded and complete. I wouldn't sell mine for less than $600, so yeah, thats nasty.

I have two, both arcade titles:
Splatterhouse and Solar Assault. What I wouldn't give to have both machines in my living room, or bedroom, or wherever.

Bingo.
And for me, if we're talking long time lust, to be honest, I've owned every thing at one time or another that I've wanted to own. The biggie for me was a Colecovision and I had one for almost 2 years with most of the catalog. There's more recent wants, like most of the MVS carts, but honestly, those are in reach anytime I feel like shelling out the cash.
I guess there's a non-VG item, I still really want a Pinball. Specifically, Gotleib's Haunted House as it brings back many memories and is a decent table to boot.

Yeah, Haunted House was an awesome table. Unfortunately, they are very hard to come by and I hear they are hard to maintain. Microsoft makes a pretty cool PC version of the table that is pretty realistic.
I really want a Turbo Duo with Dracula Rondo of Blood.

minesweeper expert in 62 seconds...? that's amazing. i think i've beaten intermediate in about that time...but i think i've only beaten expert a handful of times...it always comes down to a corner...where you have to guess...i hate that.
but anyways, to stay on topic
rondo of blood of course
non-gh symphony for psx (mine was stolen!)
castle chronicles
tengen tetris
super mario 2 (just got this today finally, after all these years...this was the hottest x-mas gift one year, i lost ALOT of sleep on the 24th, but i didn't get it :(
bust-amove (still don't own legal version, kill me)
and i really really really wanna try out this disgaea for ps2
but that means i have to shell out $250...
the last thing i own is a psx...and a gba...had a dc, but my friends dog ate it (seriously)
i know you're thinking, wow, my list is cheap...but hell i don't even own a ps2 for crying out loud, so shelling out $40 for SOTN, a game i've beaten say 4 times, is alot of $$$ for me. and $50 for tetris just for 2 player...nah
i have rondo 'backup', it is ITCHING me, but i'm holding out till konami re-releases it for psx ( i think they will) even tho i have psx->usb+tv-out i have morals (lol)

I've been hunting for the FM Towns Marty version of Emerald Dragon for, well, about a year. Granted, I don't have the console to play it on, but I'm one of those game-before-the-expensive-import-system people.
Yet there's one game that I've wanted ever since I saw it in an EGM during that memorable summer of 1993. Ten years have passed, and I still haven't found an affordable copy of Battle Mania Daiginjoh. Also known as Battle Mania II and sometimes even Trouble Shooter II, it shows up on eBay about once a month, with a $150 starting bid. I can never bring myself to go for it.

I've been waiting for years to find a copy of Super Mario RPG in the wild. It just hasn't happened yet, and still I wait. I am just not gonna fork the cash for it. Its not really rare at all. So if I wait, it will come.

Fenris, I'd also like a Marty, if just for the nearly arcade-perfect translation of Splatterhouse. The TurboDuo comes first, however.

Well, this is an easy one for me... I have wanted Darxide ever since I knew it existed, and found out what it was. I *loved* Elite, it was my first taste of real gaming, and to find out that Braben had made a game for the 32X .. well, I have to try it some day. If I don't ever find it then I am at least going to go over to the Netherlands, buy a crate of beer, and drop round Arr's house and beg for a play on his copy :D
Incidentally ... there was a HUGE article in last week's Saturday Guardian magazine all about Elite. It was quite simply amazing .. apparently it was a chapter excerpted from an upcoming book called "Backroom Boys: The Secret Return of the Bristish Boffin" ?!?!

It's just like the show, fun and cheesy! Plus, it has that big ass removable Dalek on the top :) A complete Dr. Who usually runs about $1000...cheap for a newer pin.
Twilight Zone is a much better pin, and shows it in the cost ($3000+), but I like both. I'd also love to get the Dungeons and Dragons pin, but I've never played that one.

Hmmm, well I finally managed to regain all five SNES games I sold back 1997 (Super Mario All-Stars, Stunt Race FX, PilotWings, Nigel Mansell's World Championship Racing and Super Mario Kart), so I don't have a major longing for any games really.
A few that I really really would love to have though, are:
Super R-Type (SNES) - Hired and once and love it, but could never find it for sale.
R-Type 3 (SNES) - I love this game, yet have only ever played it on emulation.
Mario Party (N64) - Rarity? No - but it's hard to find it in complete condition.

I bought my Neo Geo CABINET for $200, and there were a line of them at the last auction I went to. The highest I saw one go for was a 4 cart, mini-cab.
As for me, I've got one holy grail -- a 720 arcade machine. I must've been at just the right age, but for some reason that game really clicked with me, and no port/emulator has been able to reproduce that feeling of playing the original.
At the last auction I went to, I spotted one from all the way across the room. When I got up to it, I found it was a 720 cabinet converted into an MK3 machine. Blasphemy.

The Game Gear featured in a magazine a while back that played on your TV. Of course, if someone comes up with a way to mod the GG so that it plays on your TV that would be just as good.

I have been looking for Fun n' Games (complete) SNES for a long time! :D
Being a VCS gamer I hunted for 20 years, but never found a complete (boxed) version of the following:
Q-Berts Qubes
Mr.Do's Castle!
Mangia
The Parker Bros. games appear on Ebay quite often, but always slipped through my fingers.
Now, for me, it's too late, as my VCS collection will be on Ebay soon:
