Recording on Modern Consoles

Did anyone else, back in the NES/SNES days, sometimes hook their console up to a TV/VCR and record a game they were playing, either so they could watch it and figure out what they were doing wrong or to show off to friends? :) I know I did, quite a lot.

Now I wonder if that's still possible with modern consoles.

I know what you're saying, I could just find out, but my consoles are hooked up in a major and pain staking way in the other room (my VCR/TV combo is in my bedroom) and I'd like some help before I mess with all that. :)

Can I just take a PS2 or a GC, hook the A/V cables up to the front plugs on the VCR, start a game, and then hit record?

I periodically make my nephew videotapes of some of the games in my collection - the last one I sent out had a bunch of Saturn, PSX and PS2 games on it. It was just as simple as plugging the a/v cable into the front plugs on the VCR and going from there.

A long time ago I started a SLP tape of me beating a whole bunch of games. Unfortunately, my VCR was so crappy that I gave up on it (too much static).

I still do screen grabs on my site like this quite a bit, so I can concentrate on playing instead of hitting the mouse button and the action button at the same time. I've also been recording stuff straight to DVD for another project I'm working on.

You can't imagine the delicious perversity of recording the signal of a Magnavox Odyssey to DVD-R. It's too strange for words. LOL
