The art shows all the turtles wearing red blindfolds and belts, I noticed they were all colored corectly on man. project and the arcade game.
Was this ever fixed?

Presumably the first TMNT game was based on the original comics, which were, if I recall, in black and white. So, whatever color they wanted, I guess.

Based on the original comic book? Wasn't that rather obscure, aside from being entirely different in tone?

I don't think it was extremely obscure, but it was definitely different in tone. It was quite violent, from what I remember.

The NES game was based on the comic books, when they started doing color covers all of their masks were red.. even the label art was a redone illustration of one of their early comic book covers, a scene from the storyline. The use of different colors to differentiate between each turtle was a marketing decision when the cartoon and toys were in production. ...in retrospect I see the goofy cartoon (barring the first few intro episodes, which were quite good) as an affront to humanity. ;)
BTW in the latest official Mirage Studios comics Splinter died of a heart attack. Reachin' for the milk in the fridge, what a way to go. I think at this point the turtles are in their mid-twenties though.

Bratwurst, I agree with you about the TMNT cartoon. The first season, I guess you could say, was good. But after that it got kinda stupid. I knew that even as a middle schooler. :)

The first movie was based off of one of those comics as well. I loved the old black and white comics! Very, very violent and I suppose, kinda poetic.
Heck, there was one called Turtle Soup where in one of the short stories, Michaelangelo was split open right down the middle exposing his innards, and someone then rips out his heart and eats it. Messed up!

And trippin'! Kevin Eastman would draw the craziest alien settings and creatures. TMNT, Bone and Cerebus really blew open the doors for creativity in an otherwise stale spandex world imo.

I rather liked the goofy cartoon. It was fun to see the "Odd Couple" relation of Krang and Shredder. In fact, the new cartoon would be 400 times better with Krang.

Krang was so short bus that Corky was all like, "dude, yer sooo short bus".

Ah, another Bone fan! What a great comic!

Did anyone watch the final season of the original TMNT in around 1996? They re-did the format somewhat, and it was quite good.
I also had a poster of the NES TMNT 1's box art. ...or should I say, the poster where they took the NES boxart from.

I'll give it props for trying to get serious again, 'course by then the Power Rangers had taken over and shoved everything worthwhile off of television.
Alright, I'll admit the Shredder/Krang odd-couple shtick had a special place in my heart. :)

So isn't this the 2nd comeback? The original series, the late 90's live action stuff and now the cartoon again? Not saying it's bad, but you rarely see comebacks so close together (unless you count Celine Dion, KISS or an 80's metal band at the state fair).

I liked the original TMNT cartoon. I'd watch it after school just to laugh my ass off at it. It was SO funny! :) And I always associated best with Leo.
The two arcade games ROCK, as well. Great fun. The NES port of the first game was decent, but the SNES version of Turtles in Time was just about perfect and one of my favorite games.
I never cared for the first TMNT NES game much, but the third one was quite fun as well.
Even the Game Boy games were good. :)

TMNT originally was in b&w, but the artwork for the first game on NES was based off the graphic novels (the whereabouts in my house I still don't know as they have disappeared somewhere!) which had them all with red bandanas. The colour difference was put into the cartoon to help people distinguish between them
The first film was based along the "Escape from New York" storyline from early on (issue #10-11) though in the comics it is Leo that gets trashed by the Foot, not Raphael. The subsequent battle inside the Second Time Around shop, all chaos breaking loose with Casey squaring up to The Shredder, is one of the best issues ever made.
The third film was also based on a original comics concept with the Sands of Time. No Renet or Cerebus here though (issue #8).
I've got every single Eastman & Laird published TMNT comic at home, so it's quite a storyline to read through :)

You know what would be awesome?
Kevin Nash returns at wrestlemania, reprising his role as...SUPER SHREDDER!

Well they did use "Escape from New York" in the new TMNT cartoon (with Leo getting trashed) and then some.
